Shell V-Power Diesel. Thoughts?

I tried a tank of it from the Shell in MK last Saturday, drove over to Snetterton, then back to Buckingham that day and the fuel guage hardly moved. Did the Buckingham-Snett-Buckingham trip again on the Sunday and I reckon I got about 450 miles out of it before the beeper came on going through MK on the Sunday evening. Didn't really notice any great difference in it to be honest.

Well I am still on my first tank of V-Power and I am sure it is smoother and quieter, not sure if it is just me imagining it though. Seems easier to get higher MPG too

Tried V Power only the once, full tank from virtually empty (under 5 litres left I thnk) and did 500 odd miles on it, normally get 430 then reserve. That was motorway driving, going with the flow (so 90 ish) with the odd squirt to break up the tedium of watching mondeos and 320d beemers razz by in the outside lane.

So, better for me on fuel economy, can't comment on performance as car was loaded up with wife, kid, mother in law and me, and I weight 18 stone on my own. Suspension felt a bit creaky, and acceleration/handling was 'blunted' shall we say...

It seems to be getting a few good reviews on here lately.
Maybe i've not given it a fair run?
I may try another tank at next refill, but it won't be a regular thing unless i get some miracle improvements.

It costs a couple of quid extra to fill up a tank with the stuff, and I automatically go for 'normal' diesel so it's not my first choice (when the car trundles to work and back day after day in rush hour traffic, no real point) but if you don't suffer from the mindless tedium of shuffling along at 5mph every day, I'd give it a couple of tries.

I'm lucky as my hour drive to work is early and i only ever have to worry about passing lorrys on B roads, but they don't hold me up for long at that time of day, so i might benefit from it.

I've filled up with it again today, as the station on the way to work now stocks it. I've had a remap since my last try, so will give it another go.

Thats probably why mine isn't feeling any different. I've been using Shell Extra since day one, and also millers additive so my engine should be as good as it was new if the hype is anything to go on.

whats this millers stuff? does it reduce smoking when u boot it?

Millers diesel sport 4.
Helps reduce smoking, makes the engine noise a bit quieter and has helped increase MPG significantly. Well worth the money.

I used this stuff in mine from the day it rolled off the forecourt.
You don't put the whole bottle in, you use a measured amount fr every 20ltrs (the bottle has a measure cap built in thats fool proof) so just add 3 measures per tankfull. You can double dose to clean the engine out, but you rarely need to.

Seems Shell are popping this in every garage now a days, as my run to work has a shell garage, stopped off today after it has re-opened to see Shell Extra and Shell V-power diesel options.

Was even more shocked to see that both were 94.9  I even asked the lady behind the till, and she just muttered yes its the same price!?

Have been using Ultimate diesel in my 110 Tolly for a couple of years, recently tried a tankful of V power diesel, which is 3p cheaper than the BP in this area. Performance about the same but quite a lot noisier, so I have gone back to Ultimate for now.
I give it a couple of slugs of Millers every other tankful, seems to keep it running smooth and less smoke.

Just popped in first tank of V-Power on Saturday.

Used to use BP Ultimate, then as no longer a discount coupon in paper any more shifted to Texaco Excellium (past 6 months) as Ultimate is about 8p/l more round here than standard derv compared to 5p/l more at texaco

After filling up on V-power (52 Litres) i noticed that the pick up was more instantaneous than the Excellium, it sounded smoother and i cannot tell the smoke angle of it yet.

Normally on tank doing urban/odd motorway stint get about 430-450 to light on, so will see what it does for economy with V-Power over time...
