Bolster foams are still available from the dealer and a few select independent VAG specialists as far as im aware.
I know the Recaro ones are for sure as I recently priced them up.

Another option is buy a decent condition used passenger seat with less wear and transfer the bolster foams across.

Thanks for this - as much as I hate things going to waste, at this point I'll probably end up going with whichever is cheaper. I'll give my local dealer a call though - they're normally pretty good on price and service.

In one of the old threads, the part number that came up was 1M0881375G, but someone mentioned at the end of one of the threads that the 2010 Leon has the same bolster, and that's 1J0881375P?

The adhesive's degraded over the years and now it isn't sticking. I'm hoping I can unclip it from the door card and peel it off and put new adhesive under, but I fear that way there will be ball ache.

I was thinking about how this happens as the note we use at work has it on both front door cards and my theory was that the fabric had gotten wet and dry repeatedly and shrunk, raising in the corners.

You know, that could actually be the case. When I've had water come in, the worst it ever was has been on the passenger side, which is where I've got this problem. Just thinking about that gives me the fear - I could fill whole litre jugs of water emptying out the rear footwells.

I'm in no hurry to take off the door skins any time soon, but was wondering if anyone's ever had a go at sound deadening in the mk1 and what kind of effect it had?

Yeah ita too cold now for messing outside with jobs that are frustrating I resealed my door a good few week back and no water since, also I sound deaded my doors as I upgraded the door speakers I would so its less tinny now and speakers sound better for it for sure and its cheap to do while the doors are off why not thats what I thought ?.

How long did it take to dry out? Mines still wet two weeks after I re sealed it

Theres thick foam under there that acts like a sponge.
I had it with my last car.
I squeezed out what i could from the foam then regular news paper changes.
Took a while to dry out.

Yeh, but not as much of a pain as megga misted up windows in the winter.

In the back, no. You just need to take the seat base out, which is as simple as squeezing the metal rods together, and then you've got good access to the carpet. You don't have to take the carpet out that way - just stuff towels under.

I've been thinking about changing my gear knob for years, but truth be told, the knob itself is fine, it's just the plastic ring that looks bad, so I got thinking...

The top cap lifts up easily enough if you're careful, and it's only held in place by double sided tape.

Then, you just need to unscrew the ring and take it off. This will expose the leather, so be careful if the adhesive is worn out, because it will start to peel back.

Sand it down, a couple of coats of primer...

I was tempted to go down the route of spraying it in my favourite colour, but just in case I end up selling the car, something a bit more 'FR' than grey/blue had to do the job - some Audi Misano Red. I can always spray the vent tabs if I feel adventurous later.

Some lacquer. May as well spray the FR logo I've had in the glovebox for ten years...

Wait overnight for the lacquer to dry enough to put it back in the car... I wasn't expecting it to fit, to be honest - I thought the layers of primer, paint and lacquer would be too thick - but it just snapped back in place.

It's quite a strong look, and I'm not very good with bold colours - I prefer something more subtle - but then it is a sports model, so why not...?

I was looking at a top cap from a VW T5 Transporter that looked really nice in matt black, and I was just trying to see if the Leon had the same fittings underneath so it would be a straight swap. It didn't, but it turned out that I could just take it apart and spray it.

Hopefully it'll last a while - there are two or three coats of primer, base and lacquer, so it should do, but it looks cleaner than the original so I'm happy for the time being.

Loads of room there to personalise it - different colours, different finishes - I was tempted to do a black on red fade to mirror the FR badge, but I thought that was a bit too much effort for a gear knob...

All done and back in the car. I'm going to be worrying about chipping the paint for a while, but it's not hard to take out again and respray if I need to - not to mention that I can change colour too. Surrounded by so much black on the interior, I think black was the right choice though.

I was really impressed with the paint finish - you can't tell it's painted. It's the Halfords matt black spray paint, with a couple of coats of Upol primer underneath. Built it up slowly - I think there are about five or six coats on there, so hopefully it's tough enough. It's not a part of the car that'd going to get knocked too often though, so it should be fine.

Took the chance to have a clean up behind there too. It was proper dusty and the thermostat (I think?) for the air conditioning was caked in dust. Sprayed electrical contact cleaner behind the switches to clean the remnants of a coca cola incident too and they're butter smooth now.
