Has someone still got a can of the silicon grease lying about?

I've got hold of a can but it's not called silicon grease, its called MD50 Water Displacing Lubricant.

On the back it say:-

Displaces water from ignition systems, solenoids, plugs and electrical connectors.

High perfomance de-watering, anti-corrosive, and lubricating fluid with a wide range of applications. Use it with jigs, tools, micrometers, blocks, precision equipment, locks, hinges, switches, sliding doors, office machinery, power tools, garden equipment etc. Non-harmful to mateal and plastic surfaces.

Displaces water and dries out electrical components and assemblies.

Does that match up with the info supplied on the silicon grease cans?

problem solved?

I have a 110 TDI, just bought it recently. Thought my maf was playing up as i was having really bad power problems and power was kicking in and out intermitantly when i put my foot down. Was facing up to the fact i was gonna have to fork out for a new maf.

I pulled the maf connector off last night to have a look but didn't apply any grease, stuck it back on and performance seemed a bit better by just doing that -

I got some grease from maplin today, applied it this avo and just taken it for a run straight after. It's totally worked!! Runs a lot smoother, the power is constant right through (well certainly in 2nd and 3rd-only just nipped it round town). I happy now that I haven't bought a duff car. Time will tell i guess if it's a permanent fix.

Yes, sadly it wasn't a permanent fix. lasted ok for a couple days but was back to being just as bad. I've got it booked in for a diagnostic on Monday - not looking forward to the bill!

I just cleaned and packed my MAF connector with Silicon Dielectric Grease and I've got to admit it is smoother and I could not see any smoke at all unless I really boot it - then only a tiny bit. No clouds like there used to be. The most noticeable change was the low rev smoothness - very good tip!

Have read this thread and seems to be mostly Beezers benefiting from this 'mod'.
Has anyone tried this on a Leon mk2 TDI 140 yet..?
Although its pretty much a new engine I find the idle 'lumpy' sometimes and a bit noisy even when warm so wondered if this might improve the smoothness..

theres no reason why this wont work with your car. It will work for any TDI engined vehicle.

it can also fix "issues" on petrol cars. my rev counter needle would wander between 1000revs either side of idle when started from cold. dielectric grease added and symptoms decreased to nothing over a couple of days.

an old guy i knew who raced porkers used the stuff on the lighting contacts.. very suceptable to moisture apparently.

Actually there are many reasons why it won't work. But sometimes it does, and it's cheap, so it's worth a try.

(1.8T Petrol) I use it on all my sensor electrical contacts now.
