Another quote from the same thread, especially for csd_19, who believes it's random to fit an uprated SMIC over an FMIC for stealth:

Aww gee thanks  :p

The truth is that loads of people fit them for stealth reasons.

More like they've not told their insurance company :snack:

The road hazard thing is more American, as apparently their roads are sh1te.

And the American police tend to pull people over for crap like having a fmic or a pillar mount - can't say I've heard a whole lot of that going on over here? They also have the worry of the visual inspection part of their equivalent of our MOT, if it doesn't look stock (in certain states) then its no pass.

You'll get pulled in the UK for:

A) Driving like a muppet
B) having no insurance/MOT and pinging the ANPR cameras
C) sh1ts and giggles on the nights the police are a bit quiet and want to check you
D) your car looks like an absolute shed

On that thread you linked to there are 54 posts, of which 3 are from UK users. One of which (interestingly enough) compares his FMIC to the uprated SMIC he used to run

You can be stealthy with a fmic, just give it a light coating of black paint, job done...

I'm not saying that if you are tuning you instantly must buy the biggest FMIC you can for your ko3 setup - its all a bit of horses for courses and individual choice.

If you're happy sticking with a SMIC because a Stage 1 tune is as far as you're ever planning on taking the car then fine, if you're going bigger then a FMIC would suit your needs better.

Only because he tried it with no ducting.

NO ducting

WITH ducting

Does that not show though that the uprated SMIC with the ducting was no better than the stock SMIC with ducting? 2nd pic? And that the uprated one hit the same peak temp as OE without ducting?

I'm not sure what difference the ducting is on the S3 over say my LC, he left it out to test but obviously having the ducting is beneficial.

Sorry Lee, what I was reading from the graphs is that both SMICs performed pretty much the same without and then with the ducting in place.

It's a bit different to the Leon ducting, looks to be a more open mouth to the intake.

Well bumping this up again as seeing as I'm changing the boost hoses this weekend thought would sort out the SMIC ...

Cannot find a Euroject / Tyrolsport for love nor money...

So tempted to try the turborevs out ... showroom is down the road so can check it out myself before buying. Anyone bought one yet?

It's not random, because some people definately don't want a big f*ck off silver intercooler with big pipes at the front of their car, me included...ever heard of stealth?

Talking performance, a good SMIC will see 300+ BHP (Americans have done this and proved it).

The only way you're going to get temps up high enough to need an FMIC on a Stage 1 car is either on a track, or driving like a "fud" as you put it for a long enough time.

I need an uprated SMIC myself and doing a search I remembered that Tyrolsport USA uprated SMICs are either the same as Eurojets or very similar. Both are much better than the Turborevs eBay cheapies, which are a Eurojet/Tyrolsport knock-off I believe.

This is a link to a finished auction of a Tyrolsport uprated SMIC, so you can see what I mean and read about it. They guy imported it from the States: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TYROLSPOR...tem45fe6a365a&clk_rvr_id=320166740929&afsrc=1

What a beast! i'm the same in wanting to try and keep the original look, surprises people :)

You'll really struggle in the UK, unless someone has one for sale second hand.

For a Eurojet SMIC, you need to import them from the US where they are made: Kerma has them in stock -
