Just putting this here in the hope that it might help someone else out in the future.

My 2010 Altea kept suffering from a Start stop fault randomly at first and then became more and more common.
The car use to display ‘Start Stop error’ on the dash, the engine revs use to come up to 1100 RPM, all the fans would come on and the worst part would the the power steering would drop out when being turned.
plugging VCDS in, the only error that would be displayed was

01598 - Drive battery voltage
011 - open circuit intermittent

After hours of forum searching I could see people having similar problems, with lots of suggestions, but no one had an actual answer.
So after discovering that the car had a Voltage stabiliser module, I bought one from eBay : Part number 1KO 919 041 price was £8 delivered, used commonly across the VAG range.
Swapped the unit out which can be found just behind the glove box unit on the right.
so far everything appears to be working again perfectly as it should.
Hope this helps out anyone else having a similar issue.

Think the Altea has lots of electrical problems. Some switch box that caused it to go off on one. I had the headlights stuck on with the switch off. This went on a few days. The garage wanted a large sum of money to check it. Booked it in. It fixed itself. No point in taking it in given no apparent fault then. Cancelled the appointment, never showed up again.

Another one was the car refused to start. Power on. No turn over. That fixed itself after 24 hours. Never returned. This is when the dealer described this pesky switch box that troubles Alteas. Costs a fortune to replace. Given nothing permanent no point in pursuing it. Suspect dampness in both issues that dried out and the problem went away.

My 2004 Altea never had SS so was saved from that. The seats were very good in it and it went like a rocket in the TDI DSG Sport form. Stuck to the road. Altea sports seats are not so good. But other than that, my replacement.
