hi has anybody ever heard of the steering lock coming on while driving mines did and iv rapped my car aroud aroundabout also im sure when i hit the brake nothing happend no skreeching tyres etc...iv recentley bought a new set of wheels and proformance tyres and only done 100 miles on them has that anything to do with no grip due to breaking them in ,needless to say the wheels are now buckled on inpacked and front bumper wings and supprisinly i snapped the fron hubs leaving my wheels not realy attached to car anymore.

Any ideas?????

Driving a little bit too fast?

I didn't think it was possible for this to happen, the mechanical way the ignition barrel works with the steering lock shouldn't allow that to happen.

Unless something has happened to the steering rack - its very concerning your brakes didn't work - even if the servo stopped working they would still work, just need to be pressed harder.

if the rack didn't lock it sounds like you've just understeered into a kerb?

if you hit the brakes & it did nothing, you must have hit oil or ice or diesel?

get your chassis jigged though

supprisingly i was going 40mph (40 zone) lol wish i was going faster though then i would know it was my driving.thanks that what i fought stuff on the road but the steering lock is a mystery.the repairs are getting done now and is getting jigged. body work is fixible but the hubs etc and the sump are nakerd and i think the engine coped it a bit when the sump smaked the pulleys.

You know that 40 is the maximum legal speed, but still should drive accordingly.

But I guess you're learning the expensive way :(

By any chance was this one of the calder roundabouts?

As if so i did 40 round one once, and never again, especially not with the crap weather recently, low profile tyres + black ice = diagonal car!

Doesnt sound too good, I hit some engine oil friday afternoon, going left on a roundabout, there was a about a 30cm wide line of what i thought was water also going to the left. My friend was by the side of me going right and as I exited the roundabout, was pretty close to perpendicular to the road!

So glad i know how to do opposite lock etc to get the car back in shape!

the oil was literly like being on ice, no grip what so ever, will be watching out for more of that on the roads!

errrrrrr.................................oops! Thats quite harsh tbh.

I think ill start behaving in the winter........although i only play on dry roads like so i doubt wud be much to change with my driving.

What makes you think the steering lock engaged ?

If that happened, the steering wheel would lock solid and you wouldn't be able to budge it.

Or do you mean you tried steering but the car didn't respond ? In which case it does sound like you'd gone into terminal understeer, which would explain why braking had no effect as well.

............. and me  ;)

Me too, after a £300 bill i step on the centre pedal a lot more than the right one now ;)

My power steering doesnt work on a cold morning sometimes for around the first 50m of driving, anybody any ideas?

sounds to me like you had a touch of understeer, when you are understeering your tyres are sliding sideways but you are still traveling forwards, your brakes will have little affect too

steering lock :whistle::clap:

BTW understeer is also known as (running out of tallent) :(

i reckon he took the keys out for a giggle :D

or realised he'd locked the glove box and wanted a cd out of it.
