Steering Wheel Off Centre

Hi guys

SWMBO is giving me some earache about the steering wheel being off centre when driving straight. It's actually WAY off (approx 20-30 degrees)

Tracking seems fine as there is absolutely no pull in either direction and the tyres (only 10k on the clock so still on originals) are evenly worn.

Is this common, and what are my chances of it being sorted under warranty?

If its that far off I wouldnt have thought a little kerb kiss etc would have caused it. Has it always been that way and she only just noticed ? I guess it depends on the age of the car as to whether its covered by warranty. If everythings straight then maybe it just needs the wheel removing and refitting straight.

Edit - just spotted the mileage so I'd take it back and ask them to sort it.

Hi guys,

this alignment issue is a fairly common problem ... at least I've heard of it several times before and it's been discussed in our german board, where brandnew cars were being reported having slightly off centered steering wheels.

Unlike former cars, where only a twist of the steering wheel on the axis was needed, the 5P-series comes with an electro mechanic streering, that asks for a correction via OBD setting (VAGCOM / VCDS).

For those of you interested in more technical details i.e. how-to-do, I'll qoute this instruction from our board:

Sorry, precise translation of technical terms isn't one of my strengths  ... maybe someone of you is familiar enough with both languages and can help out.

greets ... Klaus

Would this even be a warranty issue? We bought a brand new 58 plate Peugeot Boxer van, which got delivered from down south (about 400 miles on clock when it arrived).

Steeting pulling quite heavily to the left, so took it to local dealer and we were told it's not a warranty issue and we got charged for them to put it right!

Steering is again pulling to left so it's going back next week!

Thank you all for your input. Much appreciated!

I'd say the tracking itself is fine. Considering how badly its off centre, there is no way it would drive properly if there was something wrong.

I will get it checked, a report printed off and will be taking it to my local dealer to get the steering wheel aligned. Unless of course there is something wrong and i'll just have to pay for it.
