Sump thumped

Hi all, new member here with a new toy... 51 Ibiza Cupra (love the little 1.8 20v Turbo engine!!)

Left work early today to adjust the ride height as the previous owner had it very low. On my way home from work was following a bus, was not close but all of a sudden a rock apeared in the middle of the road not enough room to avoid it....

going to change the sump tommorow any tips for removal and refitting? will obviously get a new gasket for it.

Straight forward, a bit fidly to get to the bolts near the flywheel. I used some high temp sealant instead of gasket when I fitted my baffled sump.

sorry to hear that mate! Just remember as said above the sump uses sealant and no gasket be careful not get any inside the sump and allow time for it to set before refilling the sump with oil.

A little late with the reply but i thought i would share my experience changing the sump for others.

I found it to be pretty easy overall, i did have problems with those pesky bolts near the bell housing for the gearbox. They are offset from the access holes after a few mins i had an idea...

I grabbed an old extension for a 3/8 rachet and bending it close to the socket end, about 20 or 30 degrees allowed me to crack the bolts off. Using a flexible extension for a screw driver i was able to remove the bolts fully reverse above when putting it back on. I did try using the flexible extension straight off but they were too tight.

Good gasket sealer i used was Hylomar - Universal Blue gasket and jointing compound. Comes out like tooth paste and a solvent evaporates leaving a very sticky gel! Great stuff.
