back on topic, the car is going off road for a couple of months, the driveshafts are giving me trouble again, and it needs a new belt, clutch etc. So i'm buying a daily (dirty diesel of some kind) and putting my car in the garage so i can save up and get the bits done to it. With the daily i might save some proper money, and then at GTi Springfest or Inters next year unveil it again. Whining Roots Version 2.1

and the m0rksport bonnet adds 25bhp :D

You taking it off the road again?? But It's only just been running for like 2 months after it being off road for like a year. By the time you add up the cost of your planned seconds car, insurance, tax, any possible repairs it might need (as I'm not expecting you'll get a minter if your on a tight budget), you'd be better off just getting the driveshafts fixed now, and driving the beeza about. You know it makes sense (even financially) and you won't have to drive around in a diesel tractor ;)

no ordinary diesel tractor, it's a mk2 Golf TD, 1.6T with Garret T23 turbo running 15psi of boost :D hopefully anyway

i've worked it out, it's cheaper to have a run-around, something reliable and then bring the ibiza out on weekends. The insurance is £300 cheaper on the diseasal, and tax is cheaper. The ibizas MOT is up at the end of the month and i know it's not going to pass. Needs a new exhaust, the tracking, camber and tow, oil catch tank and pipework, new clutch and lightened flywheel, driveshafts sorted out, wanna put a cage in there aswell. I need a car to get to and from work, and now i'm not going back to uni i wont have the government paying for it

no lol, not any more anyway

been thinking hard this morning and this is the shopping list, and things that need to be done (after i've paid everyone that i need to):

Tracking, Camber, Tow
Driveshafts Sorted out
Oil Catch Tank and pipework
Wire in and plumb in boost Gauge
Full Stainless Exhaust
4 Branch Manifold
Schrick 272 Cams (Fast Road / Race)
New Clutch, Lightened Flywheel
Quaife or Peloquin LSD
Cable Change gearbox conversion (02A i think)
Move Battery to boot, and washer bottle
Move Air Filter + buy BMC with cold air feed
Powdercoat Rocker cover and inlet manifold
Port and polish the head
Full Roll Cage (weld in), Full X
Possibly up the boost
Replace all the hoses with colour coded SFS hoses (purple :D)
Possibly new internals (££££!!!)
Bodywork - Tidy Up

with me getting a runaround car, i'd have the time and space to remove the engine and get everything done properly. I want this to be a minter and a track car.

anybody care to put up a figure of what the above would cost?

ten grand.... assuming you're not doing it all yourself

in which case... 2nd hand driveshafts & leave as is - you will kick your self otherwise

You HAD a BMC on your Ibiza already  But you sold it coz it was crap.........remember

Trust me, save your money and get a quicker car altogether. No point in wasting thousands on a mk2 Ibiza, because no matter how much you spend on it, it will always just be a 14years old Seat.

aaah the voice of reason, there are some things that i definitely want off that list, its hard because i want it to be as good as possible, i will have this car for the forseeable future, not all of those parts will be new either.

i'll work my way through it

At the end of the day it depends how much you like your car. There's not really any other car i would want apart from a Mk2 Ibiza. After looking around at shows etc, no new models really interest me and that's why i'm happy to spend the money on my 10 year old car.

1.8T MK2 Conversion
mines only 9 years :)
tho my engine is now officially 10 :(

Youll stop spending money when you realise its a waste and not before... i know that i wont get much more than what i paid for the car in the first place tho i have spent thousands on it :)

i only earn 130 pounds a week  lol

dont worry about it, if you like spending it on your car go for it, its better than pissing it up the wall at the end of the night... sometimes :)

I know, there is nothing wrong with spending money on the mk2, even full resprays, engine rebuilds, turbo kits, etc. But there is spending money.............and there is the list that Chris made. It does help when you do the work yourself, and keep the car running while doing it, because then you can always see all the improvements, but if you will be getting the garage to do the work then you don't even get to spend the time with the car. But hey, its still better spending the money on your beast Chris then pissing it up the wall every Wednesday outside Oceanna ;)
