Hi

I'm about to give my throttle body a clean but had a few quick questions if anyone could help with.

1). Am i right in saying that in drive by wire cars you must not touch the butterfly or try to move it at all? or you risk knackering it.

2). I don't have vag com to re-align it properly and I know from reading previous posts you can only propery do this with vag com. Because I can't align it will this cause any problems or make the fact I'm cleaning it a waste of time?

anything else I should be aware of?

Thanks in advance :D

Im thinking of cleaning the throttle body when i service the car and just wanna know if i should disconnect the battery? or anything like that first.

Also anyone know where i can pick up a gasket for it?

thanks

Leave it connected and leave the battery connected so you dont have to do an inital throttle body adaptation, but reccomend you get it done if you dont have acsess to do it.

Get clutch cleaner brake cleaner or carb cleaner blast it then give it a good whipe. Dont push it open with your fingers get someone to press the throttle of snap ya broom handle and put it against seat to press on the pedal.

i read somewhere that there's a coolant pipe going to it, is that right? doesn't sound likely to me.

You should be able to disconnect it with no worries. Afterwards connect it up and switch the ignition on and leave it switched on for a minute, it should do a throttle adaption automatically.

apparently not, there's a post on here called "Why you should use vag-com to re-set the Throttle body" that says that wont work.

I would post a link but i cant until i reach 15 posts

Ahh, I didn't know that. I know it works on a lot of VAG cars, basically by leaving the ignition on without the engine running prompts the ECU to do a throttle adaption.
