Good god thats dirty - thought mine was bad but looked new compared to that!! Ok, if you have Vag Com or a Liquid Gauge you can do a throttle body re-set. I believe leaving the battery off overnight does it too! Reason being - you want to move the butterfly and clean all around and get rid of as much of that as poss!! id say take off the inlet mani too!!
Take it all off, clean with carb cleaner and put back on with a £2 paper gasket - part number on here somewhere. Move the butterfly GENTLY with fingers and hold open while cleaning, some people shove pens in, im not a fan!
Done - quick 5 min job and your car will purr!

Took a lot longer than 5 mins but its clean now, moved the butterfly like you said! Car's going to a garage on thursday so might ask if they can do a quick re alignment. Should it be ok just for general runs in the meantime tho?

Didn't take of the inlet mani. Sounds a bit complicated! It did look very dirty in there tho. Is it difficult to do?

Mine went repeatedly into limp mode after taking off until I realigned using vagcom. Liquid gauge alignment didn't cut it.

Start with re allinging, when I had my LCR I made sure I did.

Did the gasket come off ok or did that look a bit past its best? Maybe that is causing a leak?

Not sure, I thought the same when I did mine. You are just putting back the same as before but it only takes a few seconds to align it.

Not totally sure on this but I've heard the car will align itself but apparently not as well as doing it with software

I did mine with a handheld fault code reader.

Def check the gasket, remember not to over tighten the screws in the throttle body, its really soft metal
