Cheers for help mate, i was just wondering if there was some better transmission oil, due to the increase in torque and power being shoved through the gearbox, I change engine oil every 7-8k miles and fuel filter at same time, so I service it well, but the previous owner didn't in its early life it went as much as 20k between services, now it may have had long life oil, but 1 I doubt it, and two I think that long life servicing is a load of **** anyway, also I got the car at 84,000 miles so camshaft may allready be worn quite badly,as well as other major components big ends, mains etc,but hopefully it'l be ok, These engines are good for 300,000 miles in standard form when serviced properly so should be ok

I went for black pipes to, keep it subtle, I had to double jubilee clip a few pipes on, did you have to extend your map sensor? Were your pipes to long aswell?

Yeh the forge pipes were an absolute bitch to get to fit. To say there such a big name respected company, I thought there pipe kit for the SS cooler was a bit poor. Some of the pipes are too long, and some were just plain awkard to get to fit.

I extended the MAP sensor wires a fair bit, and re-routed them through a small hole in the chassis so they didnt snag on anything as they had been doing before.

Whats the capacity of the methanol tank? I've been playing with idea to make sub box to the side and that tank seems like same size than the hole next to it.

Update time again.

Was down at Springfest a couple of weeks ago.

Basically, the story goes a bit like this:

Started off the day well, and on something like my 3rd or 4th run, I did a PB of 13.80s @ 101MPH.

In an attempt to win this (which I had already run a quick enough time to win the class anyway):

I broke this:

Which led to this:

DSC00268.jpg

Which thankfully was fixed by my old man a day or so after (due to me working nights and not having time/patience/energy to do anything with my life).

Since, I have removed the uprated dog bone mount, which i believe to be the cause of the top engine mount failing twice (less movement in DBM = more strain on top mount). I forgot how much less vibration there is with the standard mount. Peformance is noticeably different, but cant live with the mass vibration through the car on a daily basis, so DBM will only be making guest appearances on the car for RWYB days.

Im also currently considering selling up. Got to a stage where ive achieved what i want to achieve, and to go any further with it, I'd need to put some serious dolla into it, which im not really wanting to do (already stand to lose around £8-10K on it). Be a shame to see it go if i do decide to get rid, but you know i'll be back with another awesome sleeper/rapid car.

You've got to the same stage I did then Tom! I hybrid the Ibiza, drove it for 10k miles and got used to it, so wanted a change! I can totally understand where you're coming from.

As for the engine mount, I never went for uprated mounts for mine. I figured, the more you hold the engine still, the more things are gonna break, whether it be top engine mounts or driveshafts. And like you say, I hear the vibration is terrible so......

If you flog yours, I think only Sparky will have kept his! All the rest of us have done it and sold up!

I'm so tempted to keep it as a daily Ash, and just buy something like a westfield, but been looking at mk2 leon cupras. After driving my mates mapped one last night, its really not helping say no to one.

With a SMF flywheel, i found they arent that sociable at being a daily. Maybe just me????

Must admit I was seriously considering a K1 or Cupra before buying the R, cos I know with a map you can get around 330-350bhp. Which cant be bad!!! But then I thought, 2wd and that sort of power?? Same problem I had with the Ibiza! So stuck with the R32, 4wd and lovely noise. :)

Good luck whatever you choose.

Well it's time for another reasonably big update.

First up, I've had a Devils Own water/meth injection kit sat in my garage for the last 9 months doing sod all. I've finally pulled my finger out and got this in the car.

IMG00006-20100609-1441.jpg

I also figured seen as i was doing it, i may aswell do it properly, and get the mapping tweaked to get the most out of it. I took the car back to Paul at RS Tuning.

We got it on the rollers and started playing about with it.

IMG00009-20100609-1625.jpg

Of the 3 final runs, the best figures it produced were 245bhp and 410ft/lbs.
The graph i have is for the worst of the 3 runs, and looking at it, it doesnt appear to have actually RR's correctly when you compare the non-meth torque peak to the meth torque peak.

All in though, im well chuffed. More power all accross the rev range, and on the road its completely different. Feels an awful lot faster and so much more willing low down the revs.

Now for the bad part of my update.

Down shifted from 4th to 3rd yesterday, and hey presto, gear selector fork has gone, rendering all my new found power currently useless. managed to get the car home in 3rd gear, which isnt great, but couldnt be arsed waiting around for a recovery truck again. Hoping to get it sorted this week, but not had chance to speak to a gearbox specialist yet. Thinking whilst the box is though, i might treat it to a new toy too :D

Not updated in a while.

Had the car back on the road a few weeks now.

Whilst the gearbox was out having work done on it, I figured i might as well have a torque biasing diff fitted. Decided to go for Quaiffe over the peloquin, as it was a bit cheaper, but mainly swayed due to it being an english company (easier to resolve potential issues).

Also found while the gearbox was out, that my severe lack of mechanical sympathy, had taken its toll on the clutch and flywheel. Replaced these with new, but the same, items. Helix setup, is to my knowledge, the most capable without going for a paddle clutch. I didnt want a paddle clutch due to its snatchy nature, and the helix i had in before never slipped under normal driving (only when i attempted second gear launches).

As i said, its been back on the road a few weeks now, and ive put around 1800 miles on it. The diff is probably the best £800 ive spent in a long long time. It's taken the cars handling to an entire new level.

Anyway, just a few pictures from the last month.
