There was a 7bhp "gain", but whether that was dyno lottery stuff who really knows. I'm sure it spools better and people have commented that "you can really hear the turbo" (but I can't tell any difference any more).

I think you've missed the point slightly.
Pete and a few others were interested in polishing the existing pipe until I pointed out that it's not aluminium, it's plain old steel. My point was if you're wanting a polished one, then why not think about replacing the whole stock one with a custom one (or off the shelf one A&M do one) and also get the benefit of this mod at the same time. AND keeping the original to put back on at a later stage.
It also makes sense to swap, as taking the silencer out of the stok one is very involved.
If you just want to paint it, and/or take out the silencer, then fine do it.
P.S. I'm thinking about doing the silencer removal from the stock pipe on an exchange basis. Anyone interested?

depends how much the A&M one is going to be as id like a standard onme to go back on for warrenty and servicing issues
Yes you could chrome, brushed chrome, or black chrome it. You could nickel plate it. You could flipping gold plate it if you wanted to think: mmmm, carbon wrap...). But then you wouldn't have a stock pipe to put back on, which a lot of people like to have.
It's up to you! Each to their own.
As for won't look as good as the original, that's got to be an opinion, surely? Again each to their own (and since A&M haven't made one yet (and I'm guessing they haven't, they might have done) we don't know what it will look like...)
