I've had my alignment checked a few times and it's always been right but the first set of tyres I had on my car were down to the metal on the inside edge of the tyre after 9k. If I align my steering wheel dead straight then stand at the front of the car I can see the wheels point slightly away from each other  I've not had any problems with wear on this latest set of tyres though and they must be 4 or 5k old now.

I've done that aswell and by eye it does always look that way. I think its something to do with the shape of the arches and wheels.

 Chaps, it will do this anyway, unless your eyes are the same width apart as the wheels!!!

Can't say as I've noticed on any other car I have looked at, if I align my steering wheel dead straight I will always have one wheel that is pointing a tad further out than the other.

It's normal for them to point away from each other. It's called toe-out and is the usaul set up on a front wheel drive car.

If one's pointing out at a greater angle than the other, then there's probably something wrong with the alignment.

Im just a bit curious, i'll need to get some new fronts soon, i've done 12-13K miles, should i be getting more miles than this. The tyres that are on at the minute are Dunlop SP Sport Maxx 205/45/16 which came with the car. Im driving a 2007 1.6 16v Sport Ibiza.

Im just wondering if perhaps im too generous with my right foot :D

Thanks lil3520, Looks like im a bit hard on them then lol. I'll def b sure to check out the ones you've got, but to a certain extent it will depend what i can get locally as some local suppliers only seem to stock certain names Mich, Bridge, Kumh, Pire and a few budget names. Definately dont think i fancy going down the budget route, because as someone already mentioned a decent set of tyres are cheaper then pulling the car out of a ditch:D

Anyone got anyother recommendations for the standard 16" alloys thanks??

i'm surprised some people are getting anything close to 20k out of tires on the front of a tdi ibiza.
I've always found them to be very sore on front tires and scrub off the inside of the tire very quickly.

got 18,000 miles out of my dunlop sportmax front tyres, which were on the car when i bought it new. Tyres had worn evenly across.

Regal RD3100 on the rear (on when I bought it), done 41k at least.

Infiniti INF-05 on the front done 18k with maybe 6k left on `em. Paid £35 each for the fronts (ebay).

I go for V-groove patterns which are noisy but better in the wet, and cheaper tyres seem to be a harder compound which is what I need for longevity. More expensive tyres are just a softer compound.

Got Yokohama Parada 2's onthe front and Dunlop runflats on the rear. Both on the car when I bought it and can't wait to get rid of the runflats!

I`ve never dealt with runflats but apparently they are awful. Noisy, harsh and expensive?

Oh, and do you need tyre sensors if you have runflats?

Ive had bridgestone turnanza er30's on the front for the last 10K, and have worn by 2-3mm which I dont think is bad. Good grip and predictable let go - but they do squeel quite badly under even a little force. A little noisier than the F1's.
