Pretty sure the needle should sit constantly at 90 - it did on my old LC and on my current car until they both developed the same problem.

This is properly confusing! So if the gauge can only get a signal from the green top sender, and I've replaced that with a brand new OEM one - why would the gauge still be wandering? Struggling to see where the thermostat comes in .

And I'm assuming the climate control display gets the same signal as the one that's being sent to the ECU - which is a constant 90 so in theory the only problem I have is an annoying gauge.

A new twist

After paying a bit more attention to when the needle drops, I've noticed it's not just a random thing - it only drops when I'm going downhill:confused:

Now I could understand if the gauge was related to coolant level in the same way the fuel gauge changes depending on the road gradient - but as far as I know it's not!

Had no other problems so for the tme being I'm not too worried, just annoyed by not knowing what's going on!! Any ideas?

But why would the needle only drop going downhill? I wouldn't have thought a faulty thermostat would be so 'predictable' as it were:shrug:

My water temp gauge drops from 90 to about 65 when I boot it.........could this be faulty sensor as the incresed air flow wont make that much difference?

If so I replace with a green one?

Normally coasting (in gear) or very light throttle
Yeah thermostat still gets my vote as it's not holding temp when coasting.
Easy enough to do

Yeah replace with a green one.

I not sure what colour it is mate I not even looked.

I'll get one off ebay in a min...sure I seen green ones on there pretty cheap :)
