mines 858a which is the part number for the actual device which is in glovebox i think the hardware number refers to the screen as ive seen 858a with hardware 41

re. firmware - I suspect you'll only get that from a dealer but I'd be very interested to know if here are any firmware updates available for the standard Nav (Technology Pack) and what they provide ....

ok so it looks like the write protect on an SD card is something which the software and/or the sd reader acts upon. therefore I don't think we'll be able to trust that the Seat headunit/software is not going to just ignore the fact it is set to read only and write to it anyway.

shame. although i guess one way of double checking that would be to try it in in another car.

This is mine which is the same h/w and s/w as the one in the picture on the eBay advert:

I'm just very wary of doing anything to the card prior to putting it in the car as it could break it.

Probably just slightly older. Mines a late 2014 I think as I got it new almost exactly a year ago.

It must work with both as it states 41 in the eBay advert and your is 40.

It may or may not be of any use but according to the time stamps "Date modified" on my V5 maps, the last file to be updated was DBInfo.txt on 11-Feb-14. The car was registered/PDI'd in Jul-14 so it points to no info being written after the card was created (assuming that the write is performed correctly).

11-Feb-14 - DBInfo.txt
10-Feb-14 - Bulk of the Map Data
29-Jan-14 - Grammar Info
System files from years before for languages, images, icons etc... (2011 - 2013)

Having just ordered a Leon with Tech Pack amongst other things, I'm really shocked to read that Sat Nav updates aren't free
They are with VW and Honda, I'm also mad with myself for not asking before ordering

They haven't always been with VW.

Yes I know, just that I've spent the last few weeks car shopping and most come with free updates with VW offering 3 years worth

Seat need to come to the party on this

My wife was told she'd get 3 years free map updates with her FR. After reading this thread coupled with the incompetence of the Seat UK dealer network, I'm not going to hold my breath.

My 62 plate Passat didn't come with free updates, just about to order a new one , will have to check in what they offer me update wise .

So could I purchase this card to update the sat nav in my Altea using Media System 2.2? I am also a bit concerned because in the description of the card the seller describes the card as used so may be locked in donor car. What is a donor car? Also if there's a risk of it being used, then it won't work in my car?
Sorry if dumb questions.

I just bought a 3 year old Seat Leon (not from a Seat dealer) and the dealer told me that maps were updated 'wirelessly', no need for a sim or anything.

...which is obviously rubbish. I'm kinda shocked, though, to find that you have to pay more for the map updates than a high-quality standalone satnav with lifetime updates and software improvements which is updated more than once per year.

What's the current deal with the data? Seat still charging? Worth just getting a tomtom or garmin and not bothering with the built in navigation?

'Wirelessly' what a bunch of useless cnuts.
Yup, afaik its still 'pants down roger me senseless whilst relieving me of lots of cash thank you very much' at the dealers. Although, even the 'latest' version would probably not be as up to date as a Tom Tom etc. Depends on you really, and what you use the car for. My work Passat is a 2012 model, sat nav has not been updated since but it still gets me to where I want to go, ( I cover 40k a year all over UK and Ireland) just need to use s bit of common sense.
