Hey folks, not sure if anyone on here has bought one of these cables either:

Now the problem is this, I followed the instructions but the cable is not recognised by my laptop (running windows 8).
I’ve sent an email to bag-diagnostics but wondering if any of you have a quick fix

I have a similar cable and could only get it to work in a specific usb port on my laptop - Had to be a usb 1.1/2.0 port not the later 2.2/3 type, only got Windows 10/Linux so not sure if that applies to win 7/8

Ok so I tried the cable in all 3 USB ports (2 x blue and 1 x black). It did not register in the black port however it came up in the Devices section:

I opened the properties to check it was working:

I thought OK it’s seeing it so I ran the VCDS but got this message:

I’m at a loss, have emailed vag-diagnostics 3 times but not had any response as yet
Does anyone else have any ideas please.

Have you got anything else you can plug it into? Eg a desktop computer. Just to rule out a problem with the cable itself.

Have you got any other software installed ?
Try disabling Wifi, Disable any anti virus running , plug cable in the launch vcds

Just looking around there seem to be many "chinese" cables that do not work ......did you update the vcds software by any chance ?

So a wee update:
I couldn’t get the supplied software to work on laptop so tried it on my Mums desktop PC and it loaded OK
Contacted vag-diagnostics who then sent a link for an updated software, this worked on laptop. Now I can’t get the cable to read when connected to OBD port
The cable registers on laptop, I open VCDS and run a TEST of cable and it registers but says nothing connected to car’. When I connect the cable to OBD port and turn on ignition there is a green LED lit up which I would expect, however, every time I try to read or test I get the same error message:

Anyone had this or can help (vag-diagnostics are not the most helpful )

Did you turn the electrics on the car before you started the app? Do you have another usb port on the laptop you can try? I've had something similar before. I believe it comes down to whether it's a powered usb port or not. If it's a more modern laptop it might have different coloured usb ports (blue being the newer). Another option would be to try a powered usb hub.

The cable only works in one usb port. I tried all ways:
- Open VCDS, plug cable into laptop, run test then plug other end into OBD and turn on ignition
- plug cable into laptop, open VCDS, run test then plug other end into OBD and turn on ignition
- plug cable into laptop and OBD, open VCDS, run test and turn on ignition
- plug cable into OBD, turn on ignition, open VCDS then plug cable into laptop

This used via an app (Xhorse) and took all of 10mins to clone new transponder.

Now I’ve got 2 x 3 button remotes working
