My 184FR is 2016 and the VAG DPF app works perfectly with my Carista. I've only ever used it with the engine running, but it should still connect if not running. Does the Carista app connect and work ok?

thanks for your response i thought i was going mad not being able to get this functioning , just about to go and purchase v gate dongle, now i know it does work with carista i will persevere to find the problem, the only reason for purchasing carista was to use the vag dpf app, carista works fine and able to do mods, maybe i'l erase and d/l vag app again, as i said the bluetooth icon lights up and then the obd icon thats as far as it goes, will buy the paid version if i can get this free version to work, anyway thanks again will try try and try again

I also have a 2014 184 and the VAG DPF works fine with Carista.

I think that when I set mine up I had to pair it or at least get the app/phone to recognise the dongle. If you go into settings on VAG DPF and scroll to the bottom, see if the connection type is set to bluetooth (not wifi) and it has paired with your Carista. Other wifi and bluetooth devices may confuse it (you basically need to tell it what it is looking for).
