vagcom lead and installation

Got a basic vagcom lead off ebay which is the version 409.1
Downloaded the vagcom program off rosstec but when I plug the lead into the pc and the obd port, the pc is not picking up the car so cant scan.
Driver for the lead is loaded on.
Anybody help here?

have you set the com port for the lead at COM1-4?

Yes Mork on port 3 which says interface ok but not reading the car details for some reason. The lead i have says not for canbus systems is the cupra tdi leon canbus?

that should be OK...

check your fuses to be sure.

does the LED light on the lead?

The light is on but i may have made a mistake.
I have a usb interface and have downloaded the version for a serial interface
Is this wrong? Guess so i think

nah, you install the software to run a serial-USB converter.
