there isnt massive gains to be made with a remap on the honda engines, normally you will get around a gain of anything from 30-50 bhp more, it all depends what else has been done ie headers inlet manifolds also induction kits, but the biggest thing in remapping them is lowering the vtec point which makes a massive difference also throw on a s/charger and you would mabye see around 290bhp on the k20 engine.

I think a car with VTEC feels more "Racey" to drive because your constantly revving the bollocks off it and it gives you that "Race" feel even though your on the high street.

Where as Turbo'd 1.8's like ours give you that Pulling feel like a rocket but feels less racey... but as we know its faster, we dont really mind too much :)

This doesn't make any sense at all, I've read it 2 times to be sure.

I think...... you meant to say

VTEC feels like a pile of dung beetle excretion

A turbo feels like a sports car.

It'd be interesting to see how many of you have driven one properly and how many of you have just been left for dead by one whilst you faff around with lag and whooshy dump ( read sh1t) valves ;-)

Around here every other knob jockey has got a CTR, ITR, ATR.... in every form, body kits, non-body kits, big exhausts, standard, 'tuned'

Not one of them have gave me a run for my money in my humble 4 door family barge, even when it was in it's 180BHP guise .........

not to mentioned driving a few of them, after a good thrashing felt meh ........ no more exciting then the B16a 1.6 VTi's

You can't generally get away with lowering thw VTEC point on an OE clutch. Been there & done that, it didn't last long sadly as I guess it's torque threshold is pretty low & on the limit as it is. Our Civic run-around developed a seized VTEC valve which locked VTEC in constantly from 0 - 8000rpm, that blew the clutch also but that was just a car meant for parts. It was fun though for the short time it lasted.

Lost count of the S2000's that have had a go (always them pushing me) and all have been destroyed...one literally where he blew his rods & pistons all over the motorway trying to escape with some sh1t driving, VTEC (I mean sh1t-TEC) and limit in every gear...tw@t! Last one was a woman thinking she was all fancy and fast...meh.

I came from the VTEC "scene" unfortunately. VTec has a nice change in exhaust tone in fairness and as a standard engine they are impressive but have absolutel no potential. if you put 5k into a F20C or an F22C versus the same into a C20XE or a Duratec you will end up with a poorer product from the honda base IMO and experience. Honda has a following of people compare/apreciate cars in thier standard form (using what car bhp figures :D) and a following of numpties without a clue and of course a following of enthusiasts (as we have here) I do think that it is hard to match the sound produced by a vtec for a 4 pot NA engine (possibly a pulsar N1 or the VVTLi toyota system) and from my experiences with hondas, this is where the appeal is, they scream, you have to rag the hole off them to get any fun but they thank you for it. exactly the same as the 16v ibiza. they love to be abused! thats where you get your rush!

after writing this I now have to take out the 16v tomorrow for a "hoon"

and on that note.

Vtec me hole!

Lol it's funny how opinionated some people are on this forum. Just cause you don't like something, it doesn't make it sh!t.

(p.s I am not agreeing with the OP at all lol)

Sort of back on topic but when I was in the Honda scene the general opinion with turbo-charging a VTEC engine was to let the turbo spool early and die off early, passing over to VTEC in the high RPM. I'm unsure many people ran full boost & VTEC at the same time.
