Water leak into footwell - dodgy seal info and DIY repair guide

going to do this later, i've read the vw guide on removing the panel but one thing i want to know is do i have to tape the window up or is that only apply to replacing window regulator clips?

You are not removing the panel, you leave two bolts at the top.

Well, theres light at the end of the tunnel. Called the garage looking at the leak and they say its coming in around the speaker on the passenger door.
Update on the update: Garage say it is the pollen filter housing. Just want it back now

Made a start on this yesterday and managed to undo the screw which holds the outer door lock in too much, now the half circle clip type thing has fallen out and i cant get it back in! any one know how to sort this, been trying to fit it back in for last hour and a half

Car all sealed up and back from the garage. They said the had a de-humidifer (not sure on spelling) in for 24 hours to gid rid of the water. It is dry to the touch but if i push hard on the rear footwell, im sure there is still some water soaked up in the soundproofing material. Is it easy to raise the carpet at the back to make sure it can dry fully?

dude raise the carpet as it will have soaked about 8 litres of water in the soundproofing. I lifted the carpet and used a microfibre absorbent cloth to soak up the water and then wring it out, for an hour!
then leave the carpets up and let it dry, if you dont do this, the thing will never dry out, the sondproofing stuff is better than a sponge

I cant suss what to do to get it up properly. I popped up the door plastics to pull that out but then got stuck. Taking the seats out is not an option either.

mate, under the front seats is the long plastic cover that goes over the runners, take them out, then if u can just take the rear seat cushions out, you can peel back the carpet

Hi, I am a newbie. I had a leaking nsf door. Stripped the door panel and found the seal leaking so removed it (was not difficult as it just crumbled) and applied sealant in it's place. Job is a gooden.

Chances are that if one door seal has gone the other three won't be far behind so you might as well crack on and sort them while the weather's good

I wish I had of replaced mine all at the same time instead of doing them as they started leaking. I have 2 replaced and a 3rd one has failed now and there is thunder and lightening here at the minute! Time to get the her taped up again!

i,ve had my leon for 6yrs now coming up for7,the first year i had it all the doors leaked,sealed them all up with the help of the guide on here,despite this i have never been able to seal the drivers door at all,think ive tried about maybe 8 times and it still lets some rainwater in through the speaker and over the plastic sill cover,even the garage i use tried it once as well despite them having said they done them plenty times before with good results,i paid 40 quid for that pleasure as well,ive given up now and have a permanent wet floor now,cant understand why this one door defeats me,ps i think the designer should be strung up by the goolies for this

When you sealed your doors did you use silicone sealant or the butyl rubber stuff? I used the butyl and haven't had a leak since. If you've sealed the carriers properly then maybe the seal between the carrier and speaker is knackered?

i used roofers stuff the very first time on all the 4 doors cant remember the name but used for sealing guttering etc,the pain in the ass door i,ve used quite a few different sealants from b&q,me thinks the doors maybe been hit before and repaired and not quite right(bent) if i remember right i used almost a full tube of silicon sealant(the vinegar smelly stuff)cos i was mad at the time after kneeled on one of the 10mm screws whilst on my knees(still have the imprint on my kneecap im sure) so i gave it the full buna hoping never to see the inside of a door again,dont know how the window still moves ok
