Git water in both front footwells. What do you th8nk it is
inner door panels as the foam tape breaks down, you need to replace with butyl tape same as rear doors but i only did that when rear locks were replaced, the same foam tape is used under the pollan filter housing or anywhere its suppose to seal out water

just bought 3 rolls of butyl tape today, gonna do all 4 doors, pollen filter housing and the wiring plug housing at the drivers side under scuttle as i had that off when wiring in cruise control, back footwell is swimming atm and its constantly fogged up so time to sort it out.
when i did the pollan box i looked at that wiring plug housing and its raised up unlike the pollan box and looked ok but i didn't disturb it, so didn't bother but you may as well while there, may even give that a relook though as i was doing other jobs at the time

I can't even imagine the dream: easy saxophone tune AND dry carpets...!

Yesterday went for a quick stop at the supermarket and heard what sounded like water on a closed bottle wandering back and forward. Got home, opened the door, stuck a knife on the door's drain holes and saw at least 1 liter showering to the ground. ;) (But at least the water stayed inside the door - good boy Butyl!).
and them drain holes are big, i have taken of the bottom door seals before now and cleaned as they act as drainage blockers as they go over the holes

managed to seal up the pollen filter housing and the wiring housing today, the pollen filter housing was easy enough but the wiring housing was a pain as its got the main ecu loom going into it so its not easy moved, had to just wiggle it around to get it cleaned and a strip of the butyl under it, seems to be held down well now though.

once id done that i got the vax out and hooved up a litre or two from the back passenger carpet, can still hear some under there when you stand on it though but i'll just need to let that dry out. tomorrow its onto the passenger front and rear doors and get them sealed up, should be fun.

Storm Claudia got me as well despite car being completely dry and sealed. I'm sure it is coming from doors because water always stays on door sills after heavy rain and somehow gets inside. I don't know what else I can do 😔

Yeah, it was quite bad. I had to have the air con on full heat. It was on for about 2 hours. Then there wasn't much the night after, and I put it on full heat again though. I'm pretty sure it was from under the scuttle panel. I'll pull it off tomorrow to lock. Hope it wasn't too bad for you

Mystery solved. I had soundproofing and sound system upgrades done, and the company that carried out the work used cardboard speaker adapters.
They failed miserably so tomorrow I will try to replace them.
Edit: Apparently they are better for sound but made from MDF quickly got wet. Now I have plastics with tone of butyl tape 🤞

You were able to save the speakers from drowning?

what a bad idea that was using MDF you are lucky it didn't soak the speakers, common sense is a gift, also blank off the holes not used on that inner panel, i removed the lock holding arms on the rear locks as it was easier to refit but did not blank the holes and got more water ingress, not much but enough it was lucky the bottom of the door panel bottom was plastic

This is going to sound stupid. But these look like rear calipers to me. Can someone tell me if I'm wrong

December issue.
I’d post a picture of the article but not sure where I stand on copyright?
I don’t want to get in bother. :ROFLMAO:

I'm a professional photographer and it's safe to say you're not going to get any pushback about posting a couple of photos. The magazine knows your car was used for the article and they'd look like dicks if they said or did anything about it. The only time they'd tell you not to in my experience is if the magazine hasn't been published yet and isn't on the shelves.

Mine is SORN, but currently at Badger5, it's not looking good. Engine is tired...

"
Engine compression test & Cylinder leak down test done and its not good news I’m afraid.

Results:

Compression test:

Cyl1 – 145psi

Cyl2 – 135psi

Cyl3 – 152psi

Cyl4 – 155psi

Cylinder leak down test:

Cyl1 – 35%

Cyl2 – 40%

Cyl3 – 25%

Cyl4 – 20%

The engine is very tired, so does support the emissions failure you saw.

A healthy BAM engine would have 190-200psi compression and less than 10% cylinder leakage.

Recommendation is...

Given our discussion this morning, new turbo, downpipe, cat, 4 x tyres etc etc, with the engine itself being worn out, you will need to judge what amount you are prepared to spend on it to make it “good again”. A forged 1.9 engine build with oversize pistons, cylinder head with new valves, guides, springs is from £8367, not including removal or fitting of engine & moving/cleaning all ancillary parts est £2500, plus the downpipe, cat, tyres, turbo etc
"

What do you reckon?
Decided to go ahead, how exciting!!

The wish list keeps on getting longer!!

I don't think it's possible to make rational decisions about these cars...

I still want to repair everything that's wrong with mine - from sagging door cards to blocked intake to a remap to repairing the paintwork - even though that would cost four times what the car's worth these days...

But it would it cost a fortune for a new car that would have very expensive modern electronics that keep going wrong
