Depends on what you want:

Cat back: nice looks and some sound, no power.
Downpipe: Power increase, no looks

if you go catback, you can choose reonated or non resonated. resonated wont really add much sound.

I would go cat back if you can only get the one half first. At least then the exhaust gasses are going from a smaller diameter pipe to a bigger diameter and then through a freer flowing backbox which creates a bit more sound.

Always build up your exhaust system from tip to turbo!
No point spending huge money on a free flowing downpipe/ sports cat when you still have standard 'restrictive' sections after it! would not make sense to do that!

If your intending to get both, why not get whichever part now but dont fit it untill you have both sections. This is what id do, to make sure the whole exhaust is perfect.

That is just common sense...what is all that about?? ;)
Good point though, didn't think of that one but if you have to have it on the car then like I said in my earlier post get Catback first.

There were a couple of full Milltek systems for the MK5 Golf GTi on ebay the other week there. That would fit your car - just sell the back box on and all you need after that would be an Astra VXR remus rear silencer or summit

Seriously though, a Powerflow silencer or similar would complete the system......

3" downpipe reducing to 2.75 like the milltek k1 exhaust?

The 2.75" Milltek downpipe (MSAU287 downpipe and MSAU288 connecting pipe) will also fit the Cupra/K1/Ed30/Pirelli. BenCTR runs this on his Edition30 with the Milltek cat back, and it does not appear to be to the detriment of power or performance as his car makes over 320bhp with the exhaust, Revo and a panel filter, and it does the 1/4 mile in 13.2 seconds.
