dropped std valves

Engine from an unlucky guy on vortex http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=2938002&page=2

Uprated valves are a good idea...

£375 for an engine set vs the risk of this for a BT motor?
seems like a good investment to me

hey Z, remember when you took my picture at Donington a few years ago after golfy died? Same thing..

Carnage.

turbo copped it, block copped it, head copped it... only thing salavagable were the pauter rods... blocked got rebored to reuse it to 82.5mm bore - £4K+ later and a 2nd hand rebuilt turbo it ran again.

JS and I had some spirited "debate" on the merits of finding uprated valves, which after a lot of researching I found.

Mandatory fitment in BT conversions as far as I'm concerned. The risks of not doing so far outway the costs. (same arguement as rods.... you would'nt through informed choice retain stock rods when pushing for a full on BT conversion, and you should'nt do so for valves either. If your choice of BT also revs higher than stock (which is most likely) then I also advocate uprated springs to match the valves. (£325 for Ti retainer & full spring set - dual exhaust springs not singles as OE))

Choice of one piece staineless steel valves throughout, inlet & exhaust or inconel exhaust valves. Inconel better for high heat loading turbo application and part of the upgrade set for 20VT's.

As used my ickle ibiza to 8200rpm and 485+bhp
