Where do I start?

Right, I'm looking to get myself a Mk1 Leon Cupra within the next month or so.

I want one that is completely standard so that I know everything that get's done to it is done properly, and if anything goes wrong, I'll know where to look.

But, I've not ventured into the world of Cupra's yet, and my knowledge is minimal.

Where do I start with "making it my own"?

I know there is probably all this information dotted around in the forum, and I don't mind searching for these things, but I'll need to know what they are to be able to look for them.

Basically, what I am after is a list of all the things I should be looking to do to:
1/ Engine
2/ Drivetrain
3/ Brakes
4/ Suspension

What parts are prone to breaking, and could do with uprating?

As I said, I don't mind doing my own digging, but if someone could give me a starting block, it would really help me on my way

All I know at the moment, is that a trip to REVO is on the cards, but are there things I should do to the car BEFORE I go to improve the results I get (rather than doing them afterwards, and then needing to go back for an update etc).

Hi mate best thing I found was to go into Readers rides section and hunt the cupra's out.

I found most of the things I wanted - Forge DV, TIP, Remap's, Roll bars, Coilovers etc were covered by the majority of owners.

Im in the same boat wanting a REVO or other software but Ive found you need a new DV and TIP to start with so the car will handle the extra boost.... then you will get lost in the world of intercoolers and big upgrades

look at induction kits, recirculating dump valves and an exhaust system before going for revo. for handling, look at shocks and springs or coilovers (depending on your preference), a front mount intercooler is a good idea too - thats what im going for next

So these are the things I should be looking at before going to REVO? I'm trying to put a list together of the things i'll need to get for the car before I get any mapping done.

So, recirc DV, exhaust, induction kit - REVO?

I guess getting hte FMIC before going to REVO would be a good idea too.

Coilovers are also on the list. So I'll look to see what makes others have used and rough prices etc.

At the end of the day it comes down to what your preference is over what to do first.

A remap will be fine on a completely standard car, but there are extra's (such as DV, air filter exhaust etc) that will all get the most out of the map and make it better. You can do these before or after, the choice is yours. We offer the APR remap for the cupra and this is designed to work on a completely standard car and up to having the extra's mentioned above. If you then go for a turbo back exhaust etc, the you can look towards the stage 2 mapping etc etc.

Suspension wise, again, it comes down personal preference and budget. Coilovers will give the height settings you want and also improve the ride and handling. The ride quality is still very good and gives the best all round setup.

Right... looking through other threads on here (and not doing much research, I have to say)... I've compiled the following list of things.

Can someone please recommend dent brands / types of things to go for if I am mistaken. I may not get around to getting everything on the list, but I want to know, if I have the money, what it is I should be getting.

1. Induction Kit - Can someone recommend a decent one to me. I've heard Jetex mentioned a few times?!

2. Forge 007P Recirc Valve

5. Turbo back exhaust system with high flow sports cat. Any recommendations of make etc (Miltek seems to be the best bet that I've found).

7. Coilovers - Someone recommend somethign here, there are so many out there, most of them are crap!

additions / removal from the list would be much appreciated, and if you can recommend what brand to use, and where to get them from, that would be much appreciated.

I am sure this has all been covered a million times, maybe it would be a good idea for someone to make a comprehensive list of ALL the things you can do to your car, recommendations of makes etc, and put it as a sticky so that newbies have got all the info in one place from the off... if there is already something like this, point me in the direction of it, then shoot me for not searching!

I'll have a go at giving you a breakdown of your list

1. Induction Kit - We supply a few, but most popular is the carbonio at £229.13 inc VAT. The Jetex induction kit for the Leon is £93.18 inc VAT.

2. Forge 007P Recirc Valve - We supply our own Awesome branded 007P's at £76.50 inc VAT and delivery.

3. Forge FMIC conversion kit - £610.71 inc VAT (includes a 10% discount off Forge retail)

4. Forge TIP - £121.04 inc VAT

5. Turbo back exhaust system - Jetex do a turbo back system for around £715 inc VAT and the Milltek works out at £784 inc VAT (with a 10% discount from Milltek's retail price)

6. Remap -£440.63 inc VAT for the APR remap

7. Coilovers - Anything from the AP coilovers at £392 inc VAT up to KW's at nearly £900. Its all down to your budget and what you are looking for.

I understand where you arecoming from with a comprehensive list of ALL the things to do to the Leon, but to be honest, there is little point as there is SOOOO much stuff out there and everyone's opinions are different, and would end up being like the forum is anyway!

Yes I am looking to get the lot done, but I need to buy the car first!

But the list you have given (exc the Coilovers) comes to over £2,000. That's some serious saving for me to do.

If I could go somewhere to get the lot done, and have a discount on the work, then great... though it is going to be a fair while before I actually start looking into doing this. If I can strike a deal now, know how much I've got to save etc, then I'll be in more of a position to decide the all important "when".

I know prices will change in the future, but I'll cross that bridge when I get there. My first port of call is working out everything that needs doing and then find out how much it will cost to get it done. Once I know that, then I can see when to do things.

This is tempting, but my previous experience with buying pre-modded cars is not good. Some people who DIY these things **** them up, and keep quiet about it. If i buy something standard, I'll know who's done the work and when, so if something goes wrong, I know where to go to sort it. Finding a completely 100% honest seller is rather rare!

I think your better off buying a car with the work already done but thats up to you For example...you buy a standard car, remap it, you will lose for sure a coil pack or 4 within a week or 2, you'll probably find the MAF is goosed, if you fit suspension this will probably highlight problems with bushes etc. Where as if you bought a car with these already these problems would have been fixed?

Also if you say bought a modded leon from this site you would probably be able to find a build thread for it and find out all the problems just by searching on the persons username...

These are good points actually... and I've had a look at some of the Cupra's for sale on here. I guess it's just going to be a case of waiting to see what's available when I have the money. I'm not going to be able to afford one until next month, so what's there now, might not be come September

It also appears that those that have been modded are not much more expensive (if at all) than the standard ones I've seen elsewhere!?

One more thing actually... when i get the car, if I do go ahead and get all this done, can the clutch sustain the power increase, or does it go without saying that I'll need to uprate that as well?

There is no way of saying to be honest. It will depend on mileage and the life its had.

Might aswell get that replaced for a Sachs one while your at it

I'm going to love the car anyway. Upgrading from my Peugeot 306 DTurbo to a Leon Cupra is going to be a massive step up anyway.

How much would I be looking to spend on upgrading the clutch to a Sachs clutch?
