Hi everyone just wondering which oil you would recommend for my car?

Some sites say 5w 30 some 0w 30 obviously fully synthetic.

Does it need to be c3 and the VW 505 thing as well ?

Whats the difference between the two ? 5w and 0w

I don't need long life oil as I do so many miles it has an oil change every 5 months lol

Thank you all again

VW 504 00 5W-30

VW/Seat did change the recommendation to 0W-30 but they have now changed it back. The switch to the thinner oil was because polar bears but my guess is that they've had issues because the older engines were not designed for it.

You want an oil that meets the VW spec. Not a big problem as there are plenty available.

I don't know. I've never bought Millers oil. But any oil which has the VW spec on it will be fine. I can't remember now but I think there are a couple of different VW spec oils that will be ok but the one I've listed is definitely one of them. VW 507 00 rings a bell?

507 is the TDI spec.

Just make sure the oil is approved to 507 and you can't go far wrong.
507 is quite a high spec for oils to meet - so any oil with this approval should be good quality.
Make sure it says approved.
Anything else like; equivalent or recommended for - does NOT have this approval.
The cheapest 507 approved oil I have found recently is Mannol.
You can find VAG approval lists of all the oils they have approved to 507 - and Mannol is on there.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking but just a few weeks ago I got oil from the dealer and he gave me 504. Even wrote the car reg on the box, you know just in case..

It's been a while but I seem to remember 504 being ok for petrol and diesel but not 507? 504 certainly used to be the one for petrol, then a few years ago they changed it to 0W-30 but the oil I've just been given for my petrol car is 505 which is 5W-40! One might begin to wonder if they are making this up as they go along?

Some oils can have both 504 & 507 approvals. 504 is specific for petrols and 507 is specific for diesels.

I was watching 'oil geek' on you tube recently and he was saying GM have changed their oil spec from 0w20 to 0w40 due lots of engine bearing failures! I do wonder in their quest to meet ever stringent emissions targets - how much OEM's are 'relaxing' their durability targets!!?

I think this is exactly correct. Saving polar bears but killing our cars in the process. Except the polar bears are fine while we install solar panels and dim the sun.

But what are we supposed to do? If we can't trust the manufacturer's own specifications what chance do we have?

I think 504 meets the spec for 507 and can be used in both while 507 can't be swapped for 504. Something like that anyway. I kinda miss the days when it didn't really matter!

Hi mate is mannoil oil good ? They do a specific 504/507 oil which says it's longlife which i am ultimately not bothered about but would that be a good oil to have ? I have looked at the millers c3 oil which says suitable for 504/507 and they are both similar price for 5 litres what would you go for ? Thanks mate

Don't over think it! Just buy the cheapest oil which is 507 approved...
But - like I said, the APPROVED part is important.
Yip. Ignore the bold claims on the front of the bottle. Oil is tightly regulated and the small print tells you exactly for good the oil is. If it has VW 507 approval it will be of the correct spec and quality.

I just had a look at the VW oil and it's got 504/507 on it so it'll do both.
