Evening,

Looking at the Cupra's, but can't find any info on what the model is called. It's the 1.8t 2002ish with the color coded trim & rear/front bumpers. Looks the same as the R but it's just the 180bhp model. Why did they make these models with the 'R' looks & then one with the standard looks?

Anywho, noticed that it seems to have the same engine as the 1.8t Golf but is around £3.5k+ where as the Golfs are around £2k, even cheaper in a lot of cases.

So, can anyone tell me what makes them worth 1.5k more then the Golf & why they changed the looks of the 180 model.

Thinking of getting one. :)

Sorry if any of this was confusing.

Joined in '09 but ended up getting another Golf 1.8t.

Cheers.

the fact that its a golf probably doesn't help, the world and his wife has a golf gti but but i can go weeks without seeing a cupra or cupra r.

wouldn't say though that there £1500 more as a golden rule but in a lot of cases i noticed that mileage on golfs seemed to be high where as its common to get a low mileage cupra etc, obviously a factor on price

You get cupra's, pre facelift and facelift, neither of which look like the R though, so not really sure which model you're looking at. Was it a tdi cupra, iirc some of them came with the cupra r front bumper?

Right, I think I may know what's going on.

You were looking at the Cupra but you can't figure out what the Cupra is called? :D

I think you're comparing the face lifted Cupra with the older model Cupra?

The face lifted Cupra has different bumpers from the R though?

I've hurt my brain.

haha, thanks guys.

Yes, face lift Cupra. You're right, it doesn't have the same bumpers. (Just looked at some photos)

Were these post 2002? And like the Golf's, are the Diesel version a bit more to buy as i know the Golf 150 TDI holds it's price well £4k+ last time i checked.

I'd be wanting the 180 petrol face lift. Seeing them for about £3.5k, this sound about right?

£3.5k should pick you up a fairly decent facelift with good mileage, but i'd allow maybe up to £4k to be safe. And yes, diesels hold their value better

facelift, 52 onwards i think mate

sounds about right mate or buy a pre facelift and change the bumpers :)

Would make me feel better knowing everything was original, especially when it comes to the insurance (And selling).

Really like the look of the Cupra & you're right, you hardly see any about. I think i prefer the fancy blue/red interior lights on the golf tho. But everything else, the Cupra seems like a much more modern car.

I'm guessing the engines are basically the same too? Was looking at the figures & they seem to match up exactly with the Golf.

Will hopefully pick one up then.

Thank you. :)

Rocky Rocastle: That's the one. :) Like the colour.

The face lift models also seem to come with different wheels.

No silly as I understand it the facelift is the fr and the fr+ had the cupra R kit ;) I think and the 180 are still exsoencibmvr coz there the best ;) and that has nothing to do with the fact I have one ;) :p lol

Thanks again guys.

And hows the rear mirror for vision? looks a bit high. Not that it'll put me off.

There exactly the same ;)

Cheers. Not a bad thing. I sold my Golf turbo after a few weeks due to gearbox issues but as the standard 150hp i knew it wasn't going to be great, but had always planned a remap which i hear really makes a difference.

The engine seems about right for me, wasn't after anything 'quick' like an S3 for example. I like the balance between good MPG, cheap insurance & good performance. (And tax)

The older s3's are only 210 ;) I say only lol but yea a golf 150 mapped can make an easy 180 I think you can get to 195ish with some money but that's going on what I've been told that is
