Why would anyone buy a petrol over a diesel these days?

more of an observation, whenever im sat in a diesel all i can think of is tractors and how they sound and how they bounce along the road...never mind me, im off ill this week and am going a bit stir crazy... :wtf:

awwwwww (((((Hugs)))))

I spose it is all a question of taste and ok yeah they do sound a bit taxish when you start them up but I still love em.

I got a petrol because there wasn't a diesel in the VAG range at the price that could compete with a remapped LCR. It's got shedloads of low down power (way more than you need for pootling round) and when you do have the need for speed, just let it get up to 3k and you're cooking all the way to 6.5k!

THAT'S why petrol is better!

Hey Badge darling! I notice you've made that tdi look like a PETROL variant... :)

I didn't make it look like that, it looks like that anyway, heh.

Funny thing is, without looking under the bonnet (or hearing the tractor engine) there is really no way to tell that it's a diesel from the outside. Not a single TDI badge to be seen :)

Of course if I did around 12,000 or less miles a year then I would probably have a petrol car. (Most likely an LCR tbh :D) But I just couldn't afford that doing over 20,000 miles :(

There are tons of good and bad resons to choose a Diesel over a Petrol car, but to say that "i would never choose a diesel because of the smoke" is a stupid and childish comment! There are very few modern diesels on the road that actually do smoke! The small amount that do are probably not maintaned that well, so the same could be said for petrols that kick out nasty fumes when they aren't running right.
Also, if you owned a car that did smoke, so what? you're driving forwards and the fumes come from the back, so you won't be bothered by them?
The smell of diesels..... is this the smell of the fuel or the fumes?
The smell of the fuel i understand. it's not as nice as petrol but that can't be helped, and as your at the pump lewss often, its not so much of a big deal.
The smell of the fumes..... When? when i removed the CAT from my TDI it was unbearable and made me feel ill. i put the cat back on and have never noticed the smell of fumes once. Torque and MPG have been covered in dozens of threads, so no need to keep refering to it, but when people complain about the power delivery being in one lump, i can only assume they were in a badly remapped car, or they didn't know how to drive it correctly as every VAG diesel i've been in has smooth delivery of power and puts other manufacturers to shame.
I would never rule out a petrol car, but it would have to be something special to tempt me from a decent diesel car.
