Hi Guys,

Ive just brought a Seati Ibiza 1.9 S TDI (100bhp) and i want to change the wheels to the 16's found on the FR models! I currently have standard 14's with hub caps! I wanted to know if getting the bigger alloys will have an affect on the fuel consumption?

Anyone had any experiences?? or noticed drastic differences??

The only reason i ask is because i had a Golf GTI before, i lowered it 30mm and stuck VW 18's on it and my MPG dropped from 30mpg to 25mpg straight away!! I know that im not doing as such a big mod to my ibiza. But if its gona be those type of figures then id rather leave it!!

I was just doing some research and on the Seat site the 1.9 tdi sport has 16's on it as standard and its MPG is quoted as the same as my model even though mine has 14's on it. Does this mean that Seat reckon there is harldy any change in MPG or has the engine been tweaked or refined since my 2002 TDI model?

Any advice appreciated

Cheers

Don't think sticking 16's on will affect the MPG at all, may make the car slightly slower to accelerate but would hardly be anything.

if it slows the the speed of acceleration then doesnt that mean the car requires more fuel to accelerate???

Has anyone got any experiences of putting bigger wheels on and if they noticed difference in fuel economy?

I did this with my old ibiza and the over all circumferance of the tyre is the same so there should be no difference

I know Ed Butler whent from 14's to 16 FR wheels on his old 1.2

Think he just said it handles LOTS better!
