Don't go above 6000k is the best advice I can give you. 4300k (or thereabouts) or 6000k are ideal. 4300k is what comes as standard in most factory fit Xenon kits. 6000k is more blue than that and is the most popular choice for aftermarket kits.

Halfords pure brilliance bulbs changed my lights for the good, clear crisp lighting now, standards were quite poor. They did have a two for one offer at one stage.

ok thanks. is that the highest you can go?

No, assuming you mean colour temp? You can also get 8000k and 10000k and even 12000k but at this stage they are too blue. 10000k to 12000k is purple.

The more blue you go, the less usable light you have to play with, which defeats the whole point of them. Plus if you go too blue the Police will be all over you, as it's illegal to have blue lights showing on the front of your car.

cool.. so the general feeling is the 600k is the best?

hi guys.. been thinking of the HID conversion. wot is the best kit to get? i like the blue type. i work for chysler and like the hids in the 300c. how much and from where? thanks

8kK and from ebay about 65-80 quid. As long as theres balasts seperate and they fit into your lights they are all very much the same kit alot try and advertise as Bosch but most of it isnt you will find one small part of the kit is and they try to sell it under the big name.

8kK are legal and are the highest you can go. It may be asking for trouble but its the same temp the range rovers have and i believe the chrysler have.

anyone got a recommended kit then for the leon?

hids-direct.co.uk

Got mine from there bud. No probs with them atall. Arrived when they said, nicely packed, bla bla bla
£84.99 for the basic kit...H7 fitting 6000k, I love them, best buy yet for my LCR.
Think they based in Manchester or Liverpool.....somewhere north anyway !! :)

good work!

do they replace just 1 set or something and u keep standard bulbs on the rest?

Yes bud.....H7 fitting is for dipped beam only !!! To be honest thats all you will need, my dipped beam is now way brighter than high beam, although the range on high beam is still better !!

I thought there was some question over the legality of HIDs at the moment?

there is which is part of the reason why i didnt get them and only got bluevision bulbs. TBH im not willing to risk it due to my license at the moment.

and its very likely soon there will be a law against them. But it may just be points to unaligned or poorly fitted bulbs. OR is may be mandatory to have a professional fit them with headlamp washers.

Bit debate on this, the law states that if a car is fitted with HID/Xenon when manufactured then it must have self leveling and high pressure washer jets,
but there is no rules on if they are fitted as aftermarket.

I got genuine bosch ones and IMHO the look fantastic,
just make the car look that bit more upmarket and executive looking,
Love them!
