Cupraloon your right it will be very expensive to even get your tank flushed, most would do it just as a matter of course. A lot of dealers will drop the tank to do this aswell, at £70+ an hour this will be very expensive!

Member of the family filled a Range Rover Td6 with petrol (£80) and drove 3 miles to pick me up. Car was pinking (running roughly basically) and they realised after another mile or two what they had done and drove straight home(car was 1 year old).

Friend who owned a garage came and collected the car from their house and drove it to the garage He said it might finally cut out but wont do any damage

They emptied the tank and changed the filters and £170 later the car was back on the road. Ran for another 70,000 miles problem free before it was sold.

Don't know if they were lucky as i know sod all about this, but if it happened to me I wouldn't tell the dealership as they will just invalidate the warranty and charge a bomb to fix. I've heard stories of £5,000+ to sort!

Most of the time, a simple tank drain and filter change sorts things out, but prolonged use will kill the fuel pump.

Dealers don't go round invalidating warranties, that decision is held with the manufacturer. All the dealers I've worked at have been main dealers, and they're happy to accept the work as its a few hundred quid extra in their till!

yeh warrenty is down to manufacturer, its a gamble for the dealer to replace under warrenty as they then have to claim it back later.

On the mercedes sprinters, if the high pressure pump is damaged its an entire engine replacement (cheaper than new pump + labour). Expensive mistake!

probably way back when, before the days of things like flame start. but also probably before the days of high pressure pumps for commonrail lol. one advantage of living in a country with consistently mediocre weather i spose lol

The RAC advert was on TV some months ago! If you put (a lot of) petrol in a deisel car and realise your mistake, DO NOT EVEN START IT! If you do you are looking at a 2k to 3k repair bill!!!!!!!!!

Had a candidate on a course recently who put £85 worth of petrol in his deisel van and after 1.5 miles spent 7 hours waiting to be recovered on the hard shoulder. Cost of repairs to the van were "predicted" as above!

When I realised, I stopped (tank was virtually empty), and pushed it over to the derv pump (if you start it, the fuel will start to be pumped around your car).

I then brimmed it with £45 diesel

So about 9% petrol & 91% diesel.

It's still running fine, have done about 100 miles in it so far. Starts 1st time & no smoke.......

a tiny little bit that like that should make next to no difference, only thing to watch for is that they will stay seperate in the tank so just keep diluting as best you can!
