MAF MOD with diode

Hi all

My cars has been experiencing boost issues similar to surging, so I thought the problem would be with the N75 valve, so I have bought new ones (both J & F) and experienced same 'surging' issue with both.

I then randomly disconnect the MAF sensor in a vain hope of curing the problem and it did, even with the N75J valve! (Car very fast now!).

Anyway, I don't really want to go and waste more money on another MAF sensor and so I found this MAF MOD with diode... (http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=205671).

It appears to be very simple and cheap, compared to replacing the MAF. Just wondering if any one has attempted this mod on a Cupra and how it went?

But my car is a 1.8T Petrol, I wanted to know if anyone has tried it on a Petrol engine!

Why would anyone want to do that? Don't you know what the MAF does?

The MAF tells the ECU how much air is flowing into the engine, but as they only last 6 months on my car this Mod would save me money.

How is it going to save you money?

If it tells the ecu maximum air is flowing through the MAF, the ecu is going to put maximum fuel in to match.

You're going to have dire fuel consumption.

You'd be better off working out why they die? you running an induction kit?

I've never heard of that, but seems to me like it would use more petrol. Mine is bad enough as it is.

It does sound like it would use more petrol, but won't the Lambda Probe pick that up?

I can't see the mod helping or running regularly with an unplugged MAF

Something isn't right and MAF's are sensitive to vibration hence the question ref induction kits.

You're emissions light may come on but it'll still run very rich (Safe in most respects) but cost you a fortune in fuel

What do you base that assumption on.... on the way a diesel engine works?
