It's all very odd how once the heat turns up SEAT vanish into a smokescreen and pass all ownership back to the dealer. It's like them sticking their fingers in their ears and saying "Can't hear you anymore".

Fascinating way of doing customer services, and whilst I appreciate the car rejection issue needs to be handled through a very well controlled procedure to stop everyone throwing back cars the minutes their cars develop so much as a fault code, I struggle to see where SEAT think they are doing right by their customers assuming everything in this thread is 'as reported'.

Just reinforces why I'd be so reluctant to buy another new car - quick enough to take the money off you and the shirt off your back!

trust me cox its as factual as can be , the only things missing are the names and perhaps a few swear words.

but had a call this afternoon from the new place my car has gone to , who tell me that they have found a faulty part with the variable cam timing which is seeing low oil pressure ,
new part will be fitted tomorrow so will wait and see what happens.

its a part that came with my new cylinder head so dont hold much hope for the rest of it

Have a 1.9 diesel bottom of the range badgeless grey lump,

had it 10 weeks so far.

SEAT being cocks yet again. I wish they would get their act together as I really do like their cars, but If they treated me like some of the people have been in the past and present I think I would become very reluctant to buy a SEAT again.

Hope you get this sorted mate. As a potential FR buyer, this is not something I like to hear and doesnt paint SEAT in a very good light.

You should have gone for the Maz 3 MPS...I owned one for a year, destroyed EVERYTHING in its wake:D Excellent service from Mazda too. Still, hindsight is a wonderful thing eh?!

Good luck.

Anyone one know what a cam variator is?

This the part that they have changed on my car and touch wood seems to be holding out ok.
They are doing testing tonight and tomorrow to see if it fixes my problem.

Basicaly as far as they can tell the fault code which was pointing towards a timing problem seems to be down to this bugger.

It basically gave a low oil pressure valvue which put the car into limp mode.

If anyone on here has half a chance of knowing, it will be DanGB.

Hope this fixes your problems!!

am variators are prone to failure on alfa romeos.

Yeah if you Google it loads of Alfa stuff comes back. They also mention oil pressure problems in some links I found. Also said the car gives a ticking noise.

One place said this:

Cam shaft and variator

On start up if it sounds like a diesel then the variator is at probably at fault, no repair is available just replacement, I advise that a new oil valve is fitted at the same time because this lets the oil flow to the variator letting it work. The cam variator advances the inlet valve timing at certain revs and under acceleration to get better throttle response and an increase in power over a static camshaft In extreme cases this can cause a misfire at approx. 3000-rpm under hard acceleration. T/s engines only the v6 has not got one.

exactly what happened to me with my 07 cupra, seat uk flobbed me off with the saying, take your complaint up with the dealer ,its for them to resolve, they are accountable for there own business.

em great customer attitude eh ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,NOT,so stick to ya guns rob,i would never buy another seat simply for that fact ,that SEAT UK attitude stinks, absolutly loved my cupra especially with the remap awsome car, pity about the after sales !!!!!!!

although my 3 mps is a great thrill too ,and had no issues either;);)

rant over .................GOOD LUCK :(:(:(

tbh i thought all 2.0 tfsi sounded like diesels the same as the 1.8's did.

i wouldnt know what it sounded like its been in the garage for 11 weeks , i can only go by the findings and info the garage gives me.

hopefully i will find out tomorrow.

Had a phone call today from the dealers and.......................

My car is fixed

i know i cant believe it , will be picking it up tomorrow and will report back my findings.

Its been a hell of 11 weeks but the next 16 hours or so are going to drag lol , but in a good way.

Thanks to everyone who kept me going when i was losing my marbles.

can you give a quick overview of whats the issue was?

ah ok it seems from a search your car was not runing on all cylinders and the dealer couldnt fix it over a number of months.

what was the fault in the end? - was it teh variable cam timing part? am i imagining it or has there been a few reports of issues with these?

i hope they give you some free servicing as a thankyou for putting up with all the hassles.

Main fault was siezed exhaust valves on cylinder number 3.
which led to a cylinder head replacement

but turned into a nightmare with the variator on the cylinder head being faulty and the dealership dragging their heels to fix it.

been 11 long stressfull weeks.
