after a roling road test. i was told that the charge temp on my car was too high.
thye said this isnt a problem but it was 60c which is losing quite a bit of bhp.
he said there are 2 intercoolers on the lcr one either side.
but the problem is that there is no good air flow too them there are fogs in the way.
they said a fix would be to upgrade the intercooler.
odviously this aint the cheapest option.
but it will increase the bhp quite a bit. what options have i got?
is this true. has any body heard this too.

hello mate. i removed the fog lamps and drilled 2 100mm holes in the wheel arch liner. this increased airflow through the intercoolers and made a big difference to charges temps. james

Read nevs fmic guide and get one fitted yourself for £200. I did mine on the lc and it dropped intake temps from 50 degrees to under 20 at full boost.

repeated pushing the engine hard, especially in an rr enviroment where the cooling is done by fans will give higher temps than when out on the road.

the fmic wont add much bhp. what it will do its keep your temps down better when running the car hard, so you wont lose as much bhp due to heaksoak. summer can be a problem, but unless you are running the car repeatedly hard and you notice the car start feeling less urgent then i wouldnt worry.

on the LC the cooler sits directly in front of the inner wheel arch trim. some have drilled holes in this or added a vent so the air has somewhere to go.

this sounds like the cheapest option.
ive had a look on the forge site and it listed 3 different ones.

have you got any pictures to what you have done?

to be honest mate no need for pics just put the wheels on full lock and drill away. make sure not to go through the cooler though, there is quite a bit of room. and to take the fogs out 2 screws, really simple and effective. james

dont all the crap from off the road get in there tho?

What level of tune are you at? IMHO, a Stage 1 LCR will be "fine" on standard intercoolers - okay charge temp will rise up to 50'C on if you're persistant, but you have to be persistant.

You don't need to butcher your arch liners, as there's already an opening.

I took my fogs out, though.

its been stage 2 remapped.
yeah the bloke just said it would run alot better in warm weather espcailly if your in standing traffic. plus he said they say for each degree heat your car goes down the more bhp you have. my friend had a front mount intercooler fitted and on the graphs he showed the difference. my was at 50-60c his was at 20-30.
yeah thought about taking the fogs out but wasnt sure how it would look with out them as the fogs look good. i never use them.
would it be easier to dril sum holes on the front bumper at the sid of the fogs. i notice behind the grill there is a lot of black plastic that doesnt appear to doing anything.

i dont want to hack at my arches. i thought it would flick all the **** off the roads on the intercoolers if i did that.

just remove your fogs, or if you are so worried, get a nev fmic or forge one ;)

if i just replaced the intercooler with forge ones not the front mount would it make any difference.
is it only forge that make intercoolers for the lcr.
ive seen 3 different forge ones on there site. but these aint the cheapest of prices.

Never heard any good reports on the forge replacement side ones and for the price the fmic is the one to go for. It's all about being at the front and in the airflow.

i thought that it wudnt make much difference cus the air flow is still restricted.

how much do you think fitting would be for this. i dont want to get ripped off if i decide to go for it.
think id go for all the hoses too.

From what i have seen on the fitting guide on the forge website it looks like a d.i.y job for fitting. You get everything you need and its direct fit.

i seen the fitting guide and it does look quite easy but im not the best with DIY jobs, i havent got the Patience either or the tools.
