LCR Turbo Issue / Fault has come up ???? PLS HELP!!!

Hi guys,

couple of things really, hope you lot can shed some light on this:

Turbo Issue.

When Ive been out in the LCR, no matter for how long, when I come back and turn the car off, i can always here a buzzing noise from the drivers side front grill. this lasts for about 10 mins usually, and I did read on here that its something to do with the turbo winding down or something, and it was important that LCR's do this. WELL, mine seems to haev stopped doing this, and I was wondering if this could be an issue???

Fault.

My bro in law hooked up his diagnostics checker to the OBDII port on the LCR under the change tray. and it came up with this: "Brake pressure senders, 1/2. Signal not plausible" - has anyone got any idea what this could be????

sometimes i don't think they do always come on. I noticed a thread a while back on the twin fan issue and they can fail but like i say on the other hand they work if they need to or at least i hope they do as mine don't always come on. I'm sure there is a test you can do, something to do with turning the temp in the car right down and heater speed etc . Some one will butt in somewhere with the answer. Try leaving your car for 10 mins, do they cut in when the temp starts creeping up and it sounds like your car is preparing for take off.

Other bit could be your brake pedal switch is nakered but again someone i'm sure will confirm

gb - No mate i havent changed the pads, theyre new, however, the discs are getting a bit worn.

rocky rocastle - is that noise one of the twin fans ???? yeah normally that sounds there everytime i switch the engine off, even if ive only moved the car a couple of feet. so im not too sure if somethings up or not ????

anybody else got any ideas ????

the noise you are talking about at the front of the car is a water pump which is in use when the car is turned off to cool the turbo down, it circulates the water around the turbo to allow further cooling. if it has stoped doing this then the pump may have given up, its easy to see its at the front of the engine bay near the top further forward than the engine itself and near the radiator closer to the drivers side. there is a electrical multi plug to it and two water hoses. if its stoped working and you cant hear the noise anymore id say its given up, id get it replaced as the turbo isnt cooling down as good as it should be.

i'm probably wrong but i thought the noise from the lcr when switching off, was the water pump continuing to cool the engine, hence the buzzing of the pump still running?

brake pressure senders, maybe the brake pedal sensor, for the brake lights if that has been changed before. im sure there is two sensors on the pedal so maybe the 1 of 2 1/2 relates to that. clear the code and see if it comes back with a good run of the car and also check your brake lights...

cap r 225 - that maybe right, I can vaguely remember something abt buzzing when switching engine off, but cant quite remember whether it WAS an issue wiht the turbo or water pump??

Should the noise happen EVERY time you switch the engine off? or just sometimes? i went on 10 mins run back from a mates house, and after switching off, the noise wanst there, however just now (almost 2hrs later) I switched the car on, and then off, and now the noise is there? ???? is it supposed to be intermittent ?

my brake pedal sensors ka'put, learn't at weekend if this goes then your cruise control doesn't work. I'm getting a new one but at the min lights are still a' ok

ah! i havent got cruise control matey, so ive cleared the fault and will see if if flags up again

Ive just been out for a good run in the LCR, came back, stood at idle for a minute or so, then switched off. AND guess what, no noise at all from the pump however, after tunring engine on and off a few times the noise is there again so why is it intermittant????? faulty pump maybe???

You wouldn't have a NIME box to control the twin fans do you?
This was the code I was getting when my NIME box was interfering with the ABS.

As above the pump you hear is cooling the turbo only, not the engine aswell.

I would monitor it very closely and see if you can see a pattern to when it works.
I don't always here mine but then I'm not always listening out for it.
If you drive the laast 5 minutes in low revs and take it easy you shouldn't really need this.
But it is a nice to have and if mine stopped working (and I Knew about it) I would replce it.

i'd get it checked out vin, it's obviouisly bothering you! as you said you'd expect it to be working after you'd took the car out for a hiding!

willie - apparently theree shouldnt be a pattern as to when it works, according to this LCR guide i found on here (pdf format, very useful) the pump should work whenever the ignition is switched off. whether the cars been mover 5ft or 5miles, and thats driving normal or hammering it,

i thought this too mate, but after speaking to a well respected vw/seat mechanic, he said, if there wasnt a need for it, why would seat have that pump there in the first place?? so based on that, and reading the official LCR guide, i booked it in with him... the mechanic said that this coolant pump is really important, and if not working, or working intermittantly, could cause unecessary heat to build up in the cylinder head and turbo, causing failure in the long run ...

So guys make sure you can hear the pump after switching off your ignition EVERY time.... or youu could potentially end up paying out more than you expected...... the guy said sometimes it could be the wiring, as he had this on a TT 225 the other week (which is the same engine as ours) or in worst case scenario it could be the pump itself, which he saids about £80 for a new one.

My LCRs booked in next wed, ill let you guys know how i get on

i dont hear any sound when i turn the ingnition off ?

do u have to open the bonnet to check if that noise is there ? or should it be noticable already ????

If you listen very closely to your bonnet with it shut you should hear it.
Obviously easier with bonnet open
