Hi Guy's,

Just after some info please.

Planning on purchasing a CAT back system for my motor and want to know if anybody can tell me what sort of decibel readings they get (if you have ever checked it!).

The systems I am looking at are the Blueflame, Milltek and Piper.

I have already emailed Milltek who told me to ask you guy's so i'll do the same with Blue and Piper.

I had my standard exhaust (with engine mods in signature) measured today and it came back at 77dB's. The max for a engine that produces 150kW of power is up to 84dB's which is type approval for the vehicle within the EU.

The reason I am asking is that the local Traffic cops are sticking people on for 90dB's and above and in the job I do I cannot have a loud one!

Hopefully someone can help.

I will measure my Blue Flame for you. I assume this is at idle or are you reving it?
What distance from the exhausts are the measurements made.

its measured at a angle of 500mm out from the tail pipe then 500mm right (if looking at rear of vehicle). The microphone is placed 20mm off the ground and a idle and 3/4 throttle is measured. The highest is then used, most probably 3/4 throttle.

Since your remapped engine produces 200kW are you exempt ;)

unfortunately not! anything over 150kW of power is 84dB's.

Feck, i'll have to wear a white coat for this one its like a lab experiment.:D

Is that the legal method of testing or one you created?

lol I didn't think they had an official procedure yet so thought you may have been doing your own experiment comparing to OEM. It's good to know though in case I get pulled.

This is bollox.
I'm building my car as a track car, what happens with these.
NO WAY a rally car will pass this level of sound.
What happens with this?
Most track levels are about 100 db and people struggle with this never mind 84db

You can still get performance and a low level decibel reading.

84dB's is the EU type approval for road use.
