I've had the exact same problem with my TD turbo. Driving down the motorway @75, came off the slip road and noticed white smoke. Stopped in nearest layby and masses of white smoke and no boost.
Car has just been sent back to the garage for turbo removal. Im hoping i'll get the same outcome.
Was on the car for 2 months, and its only a weekend car so not many miles covered!

Did you send them a second hand turbo to be hybrid or did you use a new one? I'm abit concerned now that 2 have gone pop, I need my car everyday, and i still want good reliability when hybrid.

The turbo was brought new from TD by a friend but went pop when his engine was mixing water with the oil. Was the reconditioned and brought by me and fitted to my car.

Yet I never had any problems with my Turbo Dynamics hybrid at all! I know they said they were having a few coming back that were second hand turbo's that had been made hybrid. That's why they now don't hybrid 2nd hand turbos anymore.

I personally think it's down to whoever fits and maps them. I know the first "hybrid" I had, the company (that I wont mention) fitted the hybrid turbo with no new manifold gaskets, overtightend everything, didnt put new oil in the engine and put it straight on the rollers to map it. I had problems with that setup. 2nd setup, I had it fitted myself, changed oil the same day as fitting the turbo, fitted new gaskets etc - did the job properly, got a company with a good reputation to map it and never had any problems. Pulled like a train everywhere!

Good luck with both of your turbo's guys! Hope it's an easy fix. They are covered under a warranty anyway....

I'm getting mine soon, TD have a special offer on at the moment new unit hybrid md376= £895 +vat I'll be fitting mine myself, although won't be fitted until I get clutch, offer ends march 8th so had to get funds together asap. Then off to rs tuning for remap, from what I've read on here he's a bit of an expert on these hybrid tdi's.

That's a hell of deal for the turbo's! As they're normally £1095+VAT!

I went to RS Tuning too - got 240.9bhp and 380ft/lb torque. Can't complain at that...

Ok so managed to get the turbo off today, was quite easy and only took me a few hours as it was all still fresh in my mind as its not been long since it went in the first place. two things I noticed...1) the turbo itself- the retaining pin inside which holds the inlet and outlet blades had excessive play so that’s the reason it was not spinning and 2) the end part of the manifold gasket (for the 4th valve) was not complete, i.e. it was letting out some exhaust gasses through it. I don’t think this caused the problem but sure didn’t help.
Anyway I’ll have the turbo sent off on Monday tomorrow and a new one back for the end of the week.

I know its a good deal, thats why I'm now getting the turbo first, then will have to get the clucth after, just have to be patient and not fit turbo until i've done clucth, Your car is what made me want to do mine! My mates just bought a clio 182, been out in it 2day it left my little beeza for dead, so can't wait to get hybrid done, and hopefully return the favour!

So are TD sorting it out for free?

Thats good, like I said before they've got a special offer on at the moment on the md376, so I'm getting mine at the end of this month, then, save for clutch, fit that, save again for remap, fit turbo a few days before remap, then remap, jobs a good un! I don't want to run turbo for too long on standard map.

good plans! is there a problem running turbo on standard map? surely its better as its not straining the turbo? this time im going to map it soon as i get it in. i wont drive it hard for a while as i still need to get my clutch in there which i'll do soon but just not got time and also need to get a bigger downpipe.

Yes you can run on the standard map, but it's not reccomended for any length of time. And you don't really want to give it the full beans, it wont have corrrect air to fuel ratio. what clutch are you running then?

standard at the momment but going to experiment with something...basically i am going to try this;
Standard dual mass (Sachs)
Standard clutch cover/pressure plate (240mm)
Helix paddle clutch plate to fit cover

now i know it seems bizzare but it should work, will cost less plus i DO NOT want the annoying rattle comming from a single mass flywheel

So you're gonna use a new dmf, i'm pretty sure them paddle clutches are pretty un-managable in normal driving like in traffic etc, they're either on or off. I know what you mean about the costs, a helix kit is £849! but i'm just gona bite the bullet and do the job once, and know that I don't need to look after a dmf, also the paddle clucthes don't last that long.

ok i just read the hybrid sheets, md374 is the gt1749v turbo (hybrid stage 1) and md376 is the same turbo but hybrid stage 2 which i have lol

Yes you have the md376, the mother off all available for these engines good for upto 260bhp, obviously with other supporting mods, so my theory is that it's well within it's limits running 220bhp. which is what i want
