i have the esp light stuck on,it came on after about 15 miles from garage after picking up,and it comes on as soon as key is turned since.i,ve read of the ibiza,s doing this and turning out to be broken wires on a connector from alternator.does anyone know if this broken wire fault could also occur on the mk2 leon cupra tfsi as i,ve noticed a couple with similar problem being told its the abs unit needing replacement.

Not had this problem.Sorry.Could be a broken wire somewhere though or a fault that needs cancelling through vagcom after repair.Even so it should not be on.Did you pick car up as a new one or was it just in for repair or warranty work ?

i,d bought car second hand from dealership, and had supposedly been for a service within that month before i recieved it:confused:. luckily it still has a years worth of warranty left from new and is going in on tuesday next week for linkup on seat vagcom in huddersfield as closest one.just hoping it can be sorted on sameday as need car for work, plus i dont like leaving my cars where i don,t know the mechanics,:(,,,though don,t have much choice for warranty work:shrug:

I had this problem on my cupra with less than 10K on the clock it turned out to be one of the sensors on the front axle I believe.... dealer fixed it pretty swiftly.

good hint that fast al,as i,d have probabley zeroed trip and took milage.modswinger and dev/nul when you say quick do you mean same day quick or a couple of days quick,,

They had the part in the next day, but I couldn't book it in untill later as I needed the car..... guess it depends if they need to replace anything. Best get it fixed though as neither my ESP or ABS were working when my light was stuck on.

I have this exact same problem on my 2.0 TDI Leon Sport (06).

Took it to the dealer yesterday and they have quoted me 934+VAT Fitted. They are going to speak to Seat and see 'what they can do'. The frustrating this is that the car is only 3-4 months out of warranty!

Does anyone know of anywhere else that will replace / fix this problem? Can it only be done by the dealer?

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Luke

keep on at them as you might get them to at least pay for most of it as a softener, its like the coil paks from mk1 and are waiting for faults to show.....on some you,ll be lucky and nothing goes wrong

I heard (but can't remember where) VAG were being pretty sympathetic if your car was out of warranty as this is a common issue over the VAG range. I heard one case where they covered 80% of costs (not the ideal scenario but better than nothing at all). The issue is that it's a sealed part and the part is very very epensive. The issue with modern garages now is that they are essentially fitters. Gone are the days where they will open up a part and try to fix it as things are very complicated now.

But failing that, try these guys as a potential repair alternative. Never used them but must be worht putting in a call.

I had a mk5 golf with this problem, esp was permanently on. fortunatly when i traded it for my cupra the salesman never noticed!!!! would get it seen to though, no traction control in winter could be a prob.

My ESP light came on on Saturday morning[:@]- the dealers had it in today and it is the abs control unit- they have had quite a few fail and it is booked in next tuesday for replacement- thank heavens fo the warranty!!!!
service guy says he thinks there is a modified replacement as the problem is well known.

This has just happened to me. Car got its annual MD service, 4 days later the ESP light is constantly on. Just had the fault pinpointed as ABS unit fail and £1200 repair bill but with the chance of maybe getting some 'goodwill' from seat towardds it, although this wont be known until after the work is done.

Car is 56 plate mk2 Leon TDI Sport, 22k. It is nearly 6m out of warranty and always had MD services.

This happend to mine 500 miles after i brought it. Luckily i got mine from a dealer so i have a years warrenty. Took a morning to sort out so not bad. No harm in asking them t osee what they can do. Any previous on the pump on the car before?

This has just happened to me. Needless to say, having researched it on the net and seeing the repair costs (and the fact that your car might not pass an MoT with dodgy ABS lights on) I'm a bit concerned!

Soche, did you get a deal on the replacement unit from Seat?

Like you, mine is a 56 plate mk2 Leon TDI (FR), 36k. It is also nearly 6months out of warranty and always had main dealer services.

Yes, i got over 50% in good will. I paid about £550 in the end - its still a **** load of money and to be honest the braking doesnt feel any better but its peace of mind for the family in the car. If you were to crash and insurance found out the light had been on who knows they may be able ot get out of paying up.

After I got the work done, they didnt bleed the brakes properly, their engineer said he road tested and it was fine but it wasnt, the brakes had some travel where they didnt increase braking power. I complained and took it back and after the second time round it was back to normal.

If it were to happen again to me I think id try to trade it into seat and get something else rather than waste the money. It seems a lottery about the goodwill.
