Very nice update. Good to see your thinking of the weak spots and dealing with them rather than just upping power and hoping that nothing breaks!!

Do you reckon 350's possible with the standard turbine wheel?? I cant wait too see what mine will make
I do to be honest but nobody else does lol. It depends entirely on your supporting mods. I'll be somewhat disapointed if i don't but hey if you don't think champane you'll never drink it.
A hybrid on its own is nothing more than a lively stock k04, you'll need the kitchen sink to break past the true 350's, i'll do it;) and it won't be ott boost either. :headhurt:

Be interesting to see what we both get. Im hopeing the fact im 1.9 and have a largeport head and inlet it will be able to use all the airflow created and not surge. HOPE anyway

Managed to pick up a ceramic coated INA manifold off a member on here, what manifold did you go for???

I've got an xs power mani to fit when the head comes off (sorry for the late reply Robbie) but i'm sceptical about its longevity but i have to give it a go. I'm happy with my setup as it is so the rest will be the icing for me.

That was going to be my other option, are you going to get the flanges skimmed as they are normally warped from the welding?

Tbh anything over 300 and ill be happy, its only got to pull a little ibiza along!

They're all warped to be honest, but since their stainless i can literally push them flat on a flat surface so i'm not overly concerned. Not the easiest manifold to fit but i'm confident.
I was full on intending to fit it in situ a few weeks ago until i got under the car and thought sod this. Much more work than simply replacing a turbo, The AMK mani heat shield prevents any acess from above, much simpler to remove head.

We saw >260g/s from wellys often, BUT, it did not equate to power until the exhaust manifold was fitted and the thing could more efficiently flow that injested air and not just turn it into heat losses and pumping losses.
Excellent airflows for sure, but I do not see it making a real 350bhp no matter how hard you try..

What did welly make on your rollers in the end bill?

from 22psi sustained boost and wmi, 338bhp/307lbft in sensible egt zone... (still high, just not insanely high)

more boost just got it to hot (yellow manifold!) - XS one

Thats the kind of power I'm after really but I dont know if its possible with a standard hotside/turbine wheel.

Did you port wellys hotside? or just smooth in the wastegate port?
Do you port them built and just stick a damp rag in them to stop any metal shavings from entering the turbine?

on wellys I ported it built cos it was built.. blocked off the bits which you would'nt want debris going down. undo some bolts tho and remove hotside as an option.

i did'nt port anything other than what was required to stop creep on the wastegate

Yeah I didnt think it through properly, of corse it will stay balanced if I just removed the hotside.

What did you do then, just flow the edges that were formed from boring it out? bare minimum amount?
Have you got any pics?

I'm interested in seeing how close mine will get to Welly's so that if nothing more we can see the contribution of the largeport head. I'll get my set up as strong as i can on the stock mani and i come and see you for a comparison RR run so i can quantify any gains after the manifold installation.

Have a look in the hybrid thread on Bill's section, its all in there mate and a very recommended read. ;)

Bill how hard is it to remove the hotside, just the bolts and actuator rod, i am going to port my V1 myself:)

Cheers mate!

Yeah just 6 bolts & tabs and actuator arm. Its advised to tap the tabs round with a screwdriver to loosen the bolts as they can be VERY tight!
There will be 2 bolts under the coolant and oil enterances as you undo these it should force the hotside off evenly

Cheers and this won't damage the turbine or anything, i.e i can just bolt it back together when done and fit it to the car?

@ Wild Willy, when do you reckon your be fitting your new goodies?

As long as you take it off carefully and evenly and make sure that the turbine blades dont catch the housing!

Yeah bolt it back on will all still be balanced.

Just make sure you clock which position it was in before you remove it :)
