cheers mate, yeah it goes really well. (well it used to until last thursday) I had phone call from dealers and they are doing cam belt change for £420 !! they also said the EGR valve is leaking oil and needed changing ? Should have been done by today but they had to wait for parts, hopefully if engine not damaged i will be getting it back for a cost of £720 including wiper blades, rear squirter, cam belt kit and egr valve. So another night of worry.

That seems much, whats wrong with the rear squirter?if its not working it will most probably be it has popped off from the back so all they will do is plug it in...don't you have egr delete?if I were u I'd tell them to leave the egr as it is and clean it out.
Whatever happens,good luck

Just an update I fitted a pipercross induction kit on Friday I love it. The exhaust sounds deeper and the induction noise is great. As I have a hybrid turbo running 230bhp I didn't mind if I lost a few bhp but car picks up slightly quicker. I had the recommended cupra intake and green Cotten panel filter before and read on here that induction kits for diesels have heat soak ect. From driving it on a hot sunny day for hour I can honestly say I haven't noticed any loss what so ever. Pulling off from stop is def more responsive. I guess having the hybrid turbo that spools quicker its liking the extra air flow. Very happy with it.

awesum car

yo, awesum car buddy, im liking ur turbo setup, wish we had the backing in cape town south africa that you guys have a have a cupra tdi with software making 145kw(194hp) and 420nm, i cant even imagine how 511nm must feel, shew. which golf does the pd150 turbo come off of? 2.0 tdi 103kw?

Thanks mate the turbo I have is a modified pd150 turbo same that comes standard on the Ibiza cupra tdi, mine was from a 1.9 tdi golf got it off eBay. I was lucky as turbo was in perfect condition. I love the power and you never get bored of it :) well worth the money I have spent. You can buy the hybrid turbos direct from turbo dynamics new.

thanks for the info, i previously thought the polo takes a different turbo to cupra tdi.
i wanted to ask about your clutch you have on.my standard clutch is slipping from giving it beans, all the torque is just too much to handle.do i need to replace the flywheel,or can i just skim it? whats ur opinion on sachs upgrade clutch(dmf)?

I had to upgrade my clutch and flywheel to a smf setup. The standard clutch was ok for a stage 1 map but any higher and it slips. I went for Sachs smf clutch and so far it's holding all my torque well :) the smf is rattely when in natural and clutch pedal disengaged but you get used to it after awhile.

My new alloys

hi mate this is what they did to my turbo :

Stage 2 – MD376
Hi flow GT20 spec compressor wheel, cnc machined compressor housing, 360 degree
thrust bearing, cut back turbine blades, lightening of turbine wheel for faster ‘spool up’,
modified V.N.T. turbine housing, uprated turbine seals. Other ‘blueprinting’
modifications.

hi i went to turbo dynamics and they said to me that they dont convert my standard turbo into a hybrid, they said that ive gota buy a new hybrid unit of them at the price of £1000 !! but i can get cr turbos to hybrid mine for £500 so i think ill be going for that option i was just wondering how they did urs n not any1 elses lol

u was bloody lucky with that cambelt that could'of bent ur valves, damaged pistons etc etc that would'of been caused due to the cambelt being to tight which is easy to do on these pd engines if you dont know what ur doing ! id stay clear of ur mate from now on hahaa

Big mistake going for a re-con hybrid unit. They often play up and you have to have it taken off and start again.

We regularly fit and tune Hybrid turbo conversions I would say over 50% of the time the re-con units cause problems.

We will only supply and fit brand new units...trust me, you will end up spending £1000.00 anyway by the time the turbo has be to refitted.

really well thats good to know thanks.
only thing is £1000 is alot of money to spend on just a turbo !!
i cant see what the difference would be between them doing mine and them doing ther own turbos cus all they do is get a standard turbo in the first place and change the internals etc so what would be the diffence in them doing my old good turbo or them doing it to a new turbo esp if theyre changing all the internal parts anyway ?

u cant buy a brand new hybrid turbo from genuine seat, they all have to be modified in the first place whether they brand new or second hand

Hi

The main problem when they get re-conned is the vanes stick causing erratic boost, overboost or no boost.

We had a few words with Turbo Dynamics a couple of years back over their re-con units, and they eventually stopped offering this service shortly afterwards.

We had a customer with a Ibiza 160PD who fitted a stage 2 re-con turbo from CR Turbos and we had boost issues with that too. He eventually took my advice and sent it back, and when it came back the cars power jumped up by 40hp and 75lbs/ft torque without touching the map again.

At the end of the day its up to you, but Im just giving you advice on the knowledge we have here from working with these upgrades over the past few years.

yea thats fine i appreciated the info, but surely u can clean the vanes out or replace them with new ones etc after all its only the soot that builds up on them and stops them from operating properly. I personally would rather save myself £500 and get some1 to hybrid my original one to the same spec as the turbo dynamics one.

we've had a golf tdi running badly in the workshop so we took the turbo off, took it apart and found out that the vanes were sticking due to soot build up so all we did was cleaned it out throughly put it back together and it was perfect.

I had mine done just before turbo dynamics stopped doing supplied turbos. I have had no problems at all with mine, when I sent the turbo to them for conversion they did a pre inspection and said the turbo was in almost new condition (came off a golf TDI) so guess I was very lucky. I got Jabba to do my hybrid map but since then I have fitted cat bypass and cone air filter so will be getting Will at P-torque to remap very soon as was very impressed with his stage 1 map I had. I think if I had known about the problems some people have had i would have got a new one from them for piece of mind.

i spoke to cr turbos and they said they havnt had one problem with a recon turbo, they test and check the variable vains for wear damage etc and if i want them too they'll change them for me for piece of mind so im saving myself 500 quid and going for a recon rather than a brand new one for over £1000 !!
i think these companies that are only supplying brand new hybrid turbos are rolling in the money ther making !!!!!!!
