Fitted mine today :D
Before fitting: Severe whining on acceleration/deceleration in all gears below 3rd, sloppy gearstick. I thought my 'box was beyond help. Someone actually asked if my car was supercharged.
After fitting: No more whine, shifting is smooth, and no gearbox refurb required :D :D

Well that's certainly not the gearbox whine people associate with the o2m shim. In my unprofessional opinion the only way it could be causing that noise is if the black end cap has been pushed on too tight and is rubbing on the part that rotates in the centre, and I'd say that's very unlikely. Get a jack, take off the wheel, get the protector bit out of the way and then pin point the problem. While you're in there you might as well do the shim as a preventative measure and then at least you've ruled that out too. Your gearbox will thank you for it. I'm not even an LCR man anymore, I just got the notification, so if my advice is outdated or wrong I apologise :)

Haha there you go :) keep up the good work fellas. Just so you know, this is a much friendlier forum that the evo forums I've been lucky enough to move on to. I remember you posting on my threads a good few times Nd-photo so thanks. I hope your Leon's serve you as well as mine did me.

You had a look under the car yet? Maybe it's worked it's way out of it's mount a bit? The silencer fell off my old LCR about a month ago. The friend I sold it to phoned me asking for help lol

Nope just the one although I'm not sure it works on your model. It might only work on LCR's. I'd look into that

Your probably right, doh :-(

He is wrong, I have a 55 plate tdi150 and did mine about 18 months back and it cured my 5th gear whine as well as making the gear changes a bit smoother. 20000 miles later the gearbox main bearings got really noisy and needed replacing, the car had done 182,000 miles so I don't think it was caused by the shim. I think they took the shim off and left if off when they did the repair as the 5th gear whine is back.

I have a grinding noise in 3rd gear de acceleration, sounds like a bearing tapping against the side of the casing. Will the shim help this. When you guys refer to whine it doesn't wine in the typical sense but it does seem louder when coming down from higher revs. 86K 2005 LCR

I have this whining noise exactly this problem but mine is an earlier model a 52 plate, it's stated for 04 onwards

How will I know if this will be a fix for me?

Thanks

Some people managed it with 2 small screwdivers, but ideally you want two small pry tools with a pointed end, kind of like what a dentist uses to poke at your teeth, but a little sturdier.
