Getting new tyres all round and I read that the TPMS batteries may need changing while the tyres are off.
Is that a thing?

Does your Formentor give a display of the actual tyre pressures per wheel or just an alert when the pressures drop?
If the latter, then the TPMS reads off the ABS sensors and there are no batteries for 'intelligent' tyre valves.
Normally a giveaway is that the 'intelligent' system has bolt in tyre valves vs normal rubber ones.

Just an alert. Couldn't find anything in the manual about it. Thanks for the info
