I want to change my fuel filter, but I don't know where it is...

Dug this up from VagCat, but this doesn't say where on earth it is!
Is the same for all the petrols? - It simply says "otto engine".

I know in VAG diesels the fuel filter generally is in the engine bay, so this diagram has to be for petrols.

Does anyone know where this is on the car?
Fuel Filter is number 10.

I think that its back near the tank - I've never changed this yet on my wife's 2003MY Polo 1.4SE, but I do seem to remember that ETOS makes some sort of comment about with or without a one way valve or something - just to make it akward - also it seems to need a release tool.

I see that there is a "choice" of "9" or "10 + 11 + 12" - "9" is a plain filter element, "10 + 11 + 12" has the extra bit fitted - some thing along the lines of what I've mention above - what ever the extra bit is?

On the 1.2 Ibiza the fuel filter was infront of the OSR wheel just behind the sill. Didn't need any special tools, the fuel pipes were push fit, you just needed to squeeze the connector sleeve then pull, my filter was going a bit rusty so the fuel pipe was a bit tight. Just have to be careful as the pipes were still under pressure when I did it but that might have been because I changed it about half hour after driving.

Dash, so it sounds like I don't need to buy a special tool (don't worry I'll find some other specialist tools to buy!), any comment to make about the lump shown that gets fitted before or after the filter on some cars?

take the fuel pump fuse out ,run egine till it stalls, remove filter now as it not under pressure any more, replace filter and fuse then start the engine

What is the part number for your fuel filter???

When I ordered mine today from Seat I was told that there is possibly 3 different fuel filters for my car! This is after giving my chassis number.
However the parts manager did say that if it's not right then they would change it no problem.

Still haven't got under the car to find it to try and get a part number off it, might go and do that later...

My fuel filter is listed as 6Q0 201 511 on the box and has 6Q0 201 051 (A) and 6Q0 201 051 on the filter itself.

Anyone else had a similar experience?

Changed it this morning, petrol burns your eyes as I discovered, also doesn't feel great when running down your neck either!
Need a new screw for the plastic holder that retains the fuel filter as my screw is now rounded out... Apart from that the whole thing was done in under 15 minutes...

Yes, its worse in hot weather, also DERV tasts funny and again in hot weather feels horrible when you seem to have soaked yourself from head to foot, brake fluid is not so good in eyes or a lot on body and, strangly enough curdy battery acid sulphates does also make your eyes sore - sore enough to stick your head under a cold tap with out worrying about if you like doing that!

I think that its all down to taking reasonable care - oh no please don't mention risk assessment - what is that.

Trouble that I had with the Passat filter was also that the bracket retaining screw was a bit rusted up, strange that when the filter gets changed every 60,000 miles or so, also the screw points up so the extremely long thread gets loaded up with crud - and I seem to remember that the nut is welded onto the bracket - well it starts off that way!!
