drove fine and didnt have a problem until yesterday morning just wouldnt get going. i thought it might be the battery but jumping it didnt help. three new spark plugs did nothing either and they all fire so i'm assuming its not coil related? turnover sounds smooth so i assume (hope) its not the timing chain either. no fault codes further confuses me so does anyone have a suggestion or should i just get it towed?

Is it turning over quite quickly?

Does sound like the timing chain might had slipped though. is it a 6v or 12v?

its a 2003 12v with 42k on so i know its at risk! it doesnt seem to be turning over any faster or slower than normal. are there other timing chain symptoms i can look for?

also out of interest would there not be fault codes for the timing

No they dont all the time, I think it has to be a fair way out before it reads a cam/crank correlation fault.

Easy enough for a specialist to check with the timing tools.

would that mean i have to get it towed then or is there anything else i can check first without having to start spending big money

hmmm, first checks are.

1.Fuel
2.Spark

The immo wont even let it turn if its still on (ie has a fault)

actually didnt think about fuel, was a bit low but not to bad, there was fuel on the new spark plugs i tried after changing though.

the reason makes me curious is when i tried fill it up recently no more feul would go in after about €4 worth even though it was near empty, this had happened once before also but i suppose that couldnt really be related, just a seperate problem that causes an embarrassing

"pump number 4"
"that will be ....... eh €4.27 please!?"

4 euros of fuel? hmmm ever seen that, sure someoe has though, if the plugs were wet then its not the fuel. do you have a timig light? safest was to check the spark.... or earth the plug to the chassis ad look for spark....

Timig lights are 20 quid and are a brill bit of kit though!

After that, vagcom ... if you dont have it the leads are £12 quid and you can get it fully workig with a bit of knowhow :)
