just to throw a spanner in the works, there has been lots of chat about the leon dervs 288 not needing up uprate the caliper..but i thought the ibiza's ran the same 288mm caliper...sooooo im a bit confused now

The Leon doesn't need to upgrade the caliper. It's the same. Pads too. Although you should change your pads when you change the discs nomatter how many miles they have. Not so sure about the Ibiza...

Thanks ravemstr

By the way the disks are used as well as the pads if that changes people's opinion

The 312mm setup that I bought came with some used pads. They've got a fair amount of life left in them, but I cannot make out what make they are. Have yours got any manufacturer stamps on them? Should be written on the pad without the metal part attached.

Dunno! Just scraped some brake dust off on the other side on the plasticy sticker type side and they they say Germany ABX can't get all the numbers as they sticker is peeling off but says 566 G1/04 8NO 615 116B

Hmm, they might be genuine pads but I can't say for sure. Personally I'm going to replace my used pads as I'll feel better if I've got new pads and discs.

I'm sure someone on here can advise you better than me, as i'm not too clued up on braking.

Okay cheers, anyone else? Think I may clean them up more and take it on my trips to TPS see if they recognise them and maybe get a new set along with the calipers and hoses for the day when I actually fit this upgrade!

Also what is a pad retaining pin don't think I have this either?

I have a set of TT calipers that I'm willing to part with if anyone is interested!

I'm going to hijack this thread for a second....

I did get some TT dics and callipers off ebay and I am waiting for pads to come so thought i'd give the discs a good clean. My friend suggested some asatone (spelling?) which will lift off the **** off the discs, wipe on wipe off kind of thing, he also said he has a metal buffer for a machine he has at work which he can use to give them a good shining over...

Can anyone agree/disagree with those 2 since I have a week to wait befor I can get pads and fit the things, might as well use the time well with them sitting in my front room

Thanks
Chris

im running 2nd hand (low mileage) disc and pads with mine without a problem. if your worried about if the disc is warped then run them against a dti gauge, if they are just rusty then get them faced by a machinist and if they are lightly grooved you can get them skimmed.

Just bit of rust here and there and dirt, nothing major....also was thinking, they are not drilled or grooved....could I drill them myself however, is it difficult. My friends got bits that would do it...but I didn't fancy doing any damage after paying for...well a round bit of metal a u shape bit of metal lol

You can drill them yourself but drilling the holes in the fancy pattern will be hard, also you could end up making the discs out of ballance.

Just fit them as they are and use them for a few miles, they will clean up fine, the same as the ones on your car at the moment.

Well I did buy them non-drilled and non-grooved as I made the argument of "it's an ibiza diesel and i'll prolly remap to 160, it's not an s2000 or a supra so think these be fine" which I think i'll stick to. I just want to cure some boredness

Thanks for your help :)...I'm just praying they fit, I am told they "just" fit under stock 16"'s....but I'm shitting it they wont since I wasn't planning on getting 17"'s just yet...I want a holiday!

i had a friend that tried drilling the disc and failed big time, disc became out of balance and juddered like a :censored: under brakeing.
