Dear All,

My Cupra R is 4 years old and only done 23K. Well I had the car serviced and MOT and it failed.

Rear Indicator bulb is white instead of orange. Passenger side front track rod end has excessive play. Rear wiper motor needs replacing as the jet is spinning with the wiper and my Graffer 1045 Pads are leaving groves in the disk and causing them to warp.

Well I have a Seat Warrenty so the track rod and the motor are covered I think. Anyway the rar indicator is showing orange but the centre of the bulb is only white but I will just replace them.

Anyway the brakes are the big issue. I tried to save money 6 months ago by buying Graffer 1045 pads for the front. And soon I noticed groves on the disk. I don't do many miles and drive very slowly but now the disk is slightly warp but both disk have many grovees due to these poor quality brake pads.

Well I don't know what to do, buy aftermaket pads and disk and hope that this problem does not re-occur which could waste more money or to just pay Seat the £400 for the OEM parts?

Anyway DO NOT BUY GRAFFER BRAKES.

Regards.

Dont you mean Galfer pads? And arent they a 'standard' pad for the Cupra R's?

There are a few different types of Galfer pads, in fact, I think there was a group buy for them recently on this forum? Some types (standard ones for instance) are fine but the higher end Galfer pads seem to have badly scored most peoples discs :(

and Seat warranty is only 3 years.....

won't cover the track-rod either, as I think it's classed as 'wear and tear' :(

Might be an extended warranty like mine. Unlikely they'll be covered though. My wheel bearing was covered but not my ball joints in a recent claim. They were classified as wear and tear so I would imagine TRE's would be as well.

Car normally drives like **** with worn TREs.

I'm after some new pads at the moment. Might give the galfers a miss and go with Mintex.

Mate, there is a thread on here, we all bought Galfer pads and the majority of us have had our discs scorred.

My warrenty is a Seat Approved one which I brought with the car from New. Basically I brought the car and with an extra 3 years Seat Approved Cover, so effectly I have 6 years cover.

Just heard from Seat and the issues are covered.

The brakes were a group buy, but I will never buy Galfer again. Any other reocmmendations?:

That does surprise me mate. An excellent warranty. Mine is a SEAT approved one and appears to cover the square root of **** all.

save money on front pads by using OEM brembo pads for the ibiza cupra R, exactly the same as the leon but no wear indicator and half the price.
I been using them no problems for nearly 20k miles just bought another set.
Part Number is 6KL698151

you sure_? is this for a LCR or cupra_?

im surprised ive not heard of this if this is true and that the brake pads are a different part number... surely they are smaller due to smaller wheels / brakes...

TRE is about 22 quid from motorquip, easy to fit, just changed one of mine after a little incident!

Pads, Definately speak to Bill @ Badger5, the FerredoDS2500 are awesome :) well worth the little bit extra imo :)

Got me worried after reading this thread as I've got 1045's all round. Been out and checked the dics and I've got a lip which is less than 1mm.
When should the discs be changed?

Well I would worry mate as before on the OEM pads the disc was fine, no issues. After a month of 1045 3 groves started to appear on both disc, now they f**ked, pardon the phrase.

Anyway my wife has told me to go with the Seat parts now, in case saving money, which in this case is not, the same thing happens again if i purchase after market parts!
