Air con dead - repair pipes?

Hi - my 1999 Mk 2 TDi Toledo has dead air con. :( It died suddenly last week. Took it in to a local aircon specialist today. They traced a leak near the bulkhead. Quoted £450 + VAT to replace the offending pipe!

Cost of pipe alone is £180 -odd from Seat dealer. It goes all over the place so they reckoned they'd have to remove a whole load of stuff to get the old one out and the new one in. 4 hours labour.

Anyone know if these pipes can be repaired? I'm sure they're pretty high pressure but surely there's a way to fix them without spending £500+

Please tell me there is. Please.

Jon.

try scrap yards some ones got to have one

Trouble is, the pipe in question is about 12 feet long I reckon. And goes all over the engine bay. So removing one from a scrapper is going to be a pretty huge job in itself. And like I said, a pro said 4 hours labour to refit, so it would take me days probably! :(

So, anyone know if there's a way of fixing an aircon pipe?
