Hmm.... dont think I'll be touching the tweeters at all then . . . might even have to wait a month or so to upgrade the speakers due to paying out a for the car itself at the start of March . . . I suppose another £150 isn't gona hurt though. Think I'll have to make my decision in the 158 mile trek back home from the dealership.

Yep, that's the ones! And as loadswine said it's £50 odd a set, but if you want to do all 4 (like me) then the total's gonna be just under the £150 mark.

But no further on the installation tonight as I didn't realise that the Crossover's don't have spade connectors on them so can't be plugged straight into the Autoleads adaptors. Doh!

As I don't have chocolate boxes or spade connectors lying around it was a swift reversal back to the crappy ol VW speakers and trying to find said bits in Peterborough tomorrow lunchtime.

Expect I may end up doing this on Saturday now though as doing it in the dark was just silly really.

Will post pics when I do it though!

Isn't there a difference between a Leon and a Leon FR in terms of radio / speakers?

Not sure what, but am convinced when i read the brochure the FR had upgraded radio / speakers.

Are people with FR's upgrading theres still??

can you not just cut the wires and connect using a standard block from wilkos at 39p?

I wondered if the speakers had been upgraded as my stylance sounds much better than the billy basic model I took out for a test drive 4 months ago. Still distrorts after 10 on the volume control though...

The higher up models do have an upgraded stereo with eight speakers, just eight crap speakers! Anyhow upgraded them as sugested by the altea boys and they sounds loads better.

Cool! New law of acoustics there! 8x crap = crap.
I didn't think Seat had pushed the boat out with the Leon on the ice front.
Seems you need an Audi to be offered something decent as standard like a Bose system. Hang on a minute though, don't Skoda owners get a choice of an upgrade? I'd love to know what speakers they get in that.

Oh my lordy!

Put the front 2 in last night as what can I say but it's fantastically better, such a difference a good pair of speakers make! You all must go out and do it now!!!

Have taken a couple of pics which I will upload later after I do the rears, which will hopefully re-enforce the bass response which is not quite where I would like it. Mind you the settings are flat on the head unit and I'm putting everything through 2 speakers so it aint bad at all!

Believe me 8 x crap = very crap, 4 x Infitiy = soooooo much better!

Most ice entheusiasts dont bother with rear speakers or 6x9s in parcel shelves anyway because it draws the sound stage to far back so unless you have people in the back you dont realy need them. Im dying for a good set of comps in the front and 1 or 2 subs in the boot. Glad the infinitys are making such a difference im a JL audio man myself and hoping to transfer everything from old car.

I just need someone here to be a guinee pig and see how easy it is to wire amps up to the origional head unit because cant find a fascia for uk leons to put an aftermarket headunit in. Also if you all think the sounds improved loads by changing the speakers then connecting those speakers to a dedicated amp will realy impress you.

Good point about the sound satge thing. I have people in the back of my Altea a lot, and if they didn't have half decent sounds, I would get an ear bashing!
Yep they are my kids, teenagers, quite outspoken. I'm lucky though, as their taste in music is okay by me.

What do people use to remove the speaker covers without making a slight mark on them? Tried a screwdriver but thought it was denting the plastic.

Well, it's all done now, 4 Infinity's in the motor and given I know very little about in car audio (more of a home cinema man) I thought it was quite an easy task.

The hardest bits are cutting the bloody flanges off the Autoleads adaptors with a tiddly little hacksaw and no bench (my own fault I suppose!) and getting the speaker covers off. The rest is a doddle!

To answer agplant, there is a specific point where you can get the screwdriver in further for leverage, at the bottom (7 o'clock ish) and as recommended I used a bit of thin cardboard (from the adaptor packaging) behind the screwdriver so I didn't harm the door plastic.

I slightly scratched the first one as I hadn't figured out the above but the rest all came off without incident.

Will try to extract pics from my phone, but no promises of good photography!

Oh yes getting them back on is the easy bit, just a helathy tap in 4 places and they are back, no trouble. :)
