I was thinking of getting these :

Any idea if theyre any good? I imagine theyre just the newer versions of the 652.7i's, but cant find any dimensions for them.

Not sure if they are newer versions or not. The site lists both and the 652.7's are actually £10 more but sometimes newer versions are cheaper

Might be worth asking them. The page on the site is a little confused too as it calls them 652.7i's further down the page and both are listed as 3 way speakers. I thought they were 2 way

That's ok, I'm confused by it too

Might go and pick up a set tomorrow as they're not too far away ... don't know when I'd be able to accept a courier delivery in the next month or so cos nowhere will deliver to anywhere apart from my home address (want them delivered to work).

Sounds like a plan! One thing though, the place I got them from did deliver to my work no questions asked. Ordered on Sunday night, got them on Wednesday.

Not bad I've got Monday pm off work though so was hoping to do the installation then. Found a small local place (like 1mile away) which has 2 x Golf speaker adapters in for £13 each - what are the chances of that?!!!

Also, found out that they are 3-way speakers - prob what the "3" stands for instead of "2".

Think I will try to grab them tomorrow if I get a chance, I'd prefer to have them in hand when I collect the car.

Wish me luck! Bet they wont fit now

Can't see any reason why they shouldn't fit, the diameter is the same, its just got 3 drive units instead of 2.
Should be okay as far as I can see.

Well ordered the speakers today, and I go and collect them either Saturday or Monday depending upon when they come into stock.

Just bought the speaker adapters and just had a close shave as one of the packs didnt have the wiring adapters!!!! Luckily the local store had another pack to hand

Time for a bid of modification to the speaker rings tonight then in preparation....

One question though - it says in the Altea speaker project thread that you need to cut wires 2 and 4 on the adapter block......do you have to basically just disable the loop from 1-2 and 3-4 and connect 1 and 4 as normal?? Very confused as I've not done anything like this before.

Ed - what did you do? Your pic showed the adapter block unmodified.....

Have fun cutting the speaker rings - I hope your saw is better than mine!

On the adapter blocks, I just cut wire 2 right at the adaptor end (I had forgotten to do this when I took the pic!) and put some insulation tape on the end.

I didn't notice on the thread about cutting wire 4

Hope that hasn't screwed up the sound but I can't hear anything out of the tweeter so I think it's right.

Anyone else care to shed some light?

Well the 'old man' said he'd help me - he's got a decent jigsaw and is a bit of a dab hand with it

Did you just connect 1 and 4 as usual then? One thread was saying connect 1 and 3 to the correct polarities - but 3 is REALLY short, and Loadswine's images show 1 and 4 connected.

Damn it!!! Just had a call from the dealership and they've already fitted the interior trim kit!!! Hope it's not too difficult to get the speaker rings off without damaging them!!!

Doh! about the trim kit, should be okay though from the pics I have seen it won't stop you from getting the screwdriver in.

On the wires it's a bit difficult to tell 100% but I think loadswine did the same as me, essentially just cutting no. 3 wrire (the red one) and terminated it with a terminal block.

His black wires look intact as mine are.

All I did was cut the red wire and plugged the rest in as normal and the connector only goes in one way so you can't get the polarities mixed.

Riiiight... I've modded the autoleads kits, and am now hoping to install the new speakers. Only problem I have now is that the aluminium trim my dealer so kindly fitted is blocking any visibility of where I can get a screwdriver in to pop the grills out. Could anyone post a close-up pic of exactly where the best point is to lever them out? Also, do you just need to do it from there, or are there other points which need to be released?

Any help / info would be great.

Sorry for the slackness of my reply, I'm sure you have figured it out but in case you haven't the place you need to look for is on the bottom left side of the drivers grille.

If you feel round the edge with your finger you should be able to feel where it is. Then carefully push a screwdriver in with some thin cardboard behind and pivot it back to get the first clip out.

Sorry I haven't got pics as it's too dark but will try to take one in the light soon!

Cheers for that, I'll try looking later. It's very difficult to see anything around the speaker surround thanks to the aluminium trim kit ..... cant stay angry at it for long though cos it does look good!

Think I'm going to leave the speakers til the weekend now so that I can attempt them while it's light and dry instead of trying it after work when It's starting to get dark and really can't be bothered ..... going to need to take my time with these surrounds, then it should only take me 5 mins per speaker - they're all wired up and ready to go

Just changed the front drivers on mine easy 20min job to do both sides .
have only fitted some jbl mids that i had sitting around for the moment as i will be replacing the whole lot with components when the weather gets a bit better .
But still they are a massive improvment over the standard rubbish
Before.

speaker adapters needed trimming i used a sharp stanley knife to run round the inside of the lip took a couple of times to get all the way through.

And insitu.

Drivers fitted.

covers then just clipped back on.

I can now see where the leverage point is to get the grills off

Saves me digging around with a screwdriver and damaging the trim!

Speaker covers are off - the infinitys are going in tonight

It'll be good to get rid of the flat, bass-less excuses for speakers which are in there at the mo. The Fr should have a Bose system like Audis!!!


Update : Infinity Kappa 653.7i's DO NOT FIT!!!

Tried to fit them this evening, and the tweeter sticks out too far. I'm going to try to cut the autoleads speaker ring in half to sit the speakers back a little further. Will try this over the weekend.

ah ha Loadswine told me about your problem.... hmmm and I'm glad other than that you Leon owners are finding my method of using the Golf IV speaker adapter kit with leads a god send for changing the speakers. I just came about it via a bit of risk taking since I knew I needed a speaker adaptor kit and saw that my speaker size would fit the Golf IV kit and thought... oh well they might fit the Altea being the same VW group. The hack saw did the job of dropping the adapter back into place. All the holes are in the right place etc.

Think I know what you mean by cutting it in half, slicing the tube down so it's not so long. You need power tools .... assume that everything else will line up OK and you won't loose something that you need by cutting.

Simon34 you needed speakers with tweaters in them and dump the Seat ones since if they are like the Altea ones which they will be they are rubbish and not mounted in the right place....

I still think that the Infinity ones give you an amazing sound off the headend and that's been after 18 months now. The base sort of ports into the car door.
