Although it looks bad I wouldnt go through the insurance, a few new bits (£100/150 worth of parts), some time cleaning, a bit of soilder and fresh wire and it'll be better than before.

ibizacupra said:I would have an "official" moan to SEAT UK on this. It is a fire hazard and their own records for know warranty repairs on this part will confirm this is a widespread problem.
If a vacuum pipe for servo is classed as a "recall" then so should this part as it can result in an engine fire.
